Please note that the information requested during registration will be used to determine your legitimacy as a participant of this site. As such, any information you provide that is determined to be false, inaccurate, misleading, or highly suspicious will result in your registration being rejected. This is designed to try to discourage as much as possible those spammers and scammers that tend to plague sites of this nature, to the detriment of all the legitimate members trying to enjoy the features this site provides for them.
Of particular importance is the REQUIREMENT that you provide your REAL full name upon registering. Sorry, but this is not like other sites where anonymity is more the rule.
Also your TRUE location is important. If the location you enter in your profile field does not match the location of your registration IP address, then your registration will be rejected. As such, I strongly urge registrants to avoid using a VPN service to register, as they are often used by spammers and scammers, and as such will be blocked when discovered when auditing new registrations.
Sorry about all these hoops to jump through, but I am quite serious about blocking spammers and scammers at the gate on this site and am doing the very best that I can to that effect. Trust me, I would rather be doing more interesting things with my time, and wouldn't be making this effort if I didn't think it was worthwhile.

Johnson Controls thermostats?
Thinking of getting a Johnson Controls Thermostat A-419 for a wooden rack i just built. Was wondering how safe it was with flexwatt tape as the heat source. I see they have a model on Reptile Basics that comes prewired and one comes with an optional night drop control. Anyone with any info or experience with this system please tell me about your experiences and or concerns about this thermostat and if you have any suggestions on good thermostats please give details on them and where they can be purchased Most pet shops here don't sell proportional or on/off thermostats so i will have to get it online. Thanks for your help.

I run Johnsons thermostats on a couple of my racks hooked up to Flexwatt, and they have worked well for me.
Dennis Thomas (DThomas) sells the Johnsons as well as Rancos, you can get them as just the bare unit, or prewired as you choose.

I've used one to control the heat in my herp room for about 4 years and it's worked fine. Not the same application but it's been reliable and keeps the temps constant.

I use them
for all of my racks with flexwatt and rope tape. I even use them for the ac and heaters. I also buy mine from Reptile Basics.

I don't use the "night drop", so wouldn't pay more to have the feature added....but regardless, the controllers themselves have done well for me.

I've had a few in use for years - controlling my room heater, a group of arboreal cages with radiant panels.
I recently got a couple from DThomas, for flexwatt/cage applications, and they seem to be doing fine for that too. When the next group comes, they'll be going to different racks.

oh - the only difficulty I have had was when one kept shutting down a couple winters ago...It wasn't the fault of the thermostat, though, the power strip was shorting out ( who knew you weren't supposed to drip water on them, lol). A cheap and easy fix, though, and it got me comfortable with the idea of ordering unwired Tstats for one of my applications.
