Rack systems, thermostat placement and #s

Ok if i have a rack system consisting of 18 cages stacked 9 high and two deep how many thermomstats will I need and what number cages will I need them in. For example I'm guessing 3 thermomstats with probes in levels 3,6, and 9. Shouldn't matter if its the left or right one. If thats correct what could I expect the temps of the hot spot of cages 1,2,4,5,7, and 8 to the the three probes will be set at 90. Again I'm askign not sure if it would be better to have the probe set at other cages or not.

Hey Xavier

You might get a quicker response if you posted this in the caging forum.

Good luck.

heat tends to rise...so....

My rack is 11 high and I do notice a slighty higher temp on the top bins. (I wouldn't recomend a tall rack, like mine, but I turn off the top two and use them for raising mealies & baby crickets)
Check temps with a lazer temp probe (if you have one) or a good measuring device.

Mind telling me how many thermomstat probes you use and what bins?

rack set-up

I have one which is movable and I usually leave it in the back of # 7 but I check (alot) the temps in all cages (front, back, and in the hide box, which I keep vermiculite, directly over half of the heat tape. The back of the box is usually about 88 to 92, which makes the front of the boxes about 79 to 82 degress, also they can climb ontop of the hide box which is somewhere between front and back temps. I use flat cut stone next to the hide box in the back which absorbs heat well, these can be obtained from any interior design shop or tile store (they are basically samples that they show to there customers. All this in a 16qt sweater box.
