• Responding to email notices you receive.
    **************************************************
In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Rep Points?

How nice, well I am thinking that if we had known that we would have read them and not posted here!

Well, you had to know that "Rep Power" actually meant Reputation. But the problem is still not resolved. In one thread we go off speaking about butt spanking and in the other it goes into new ideas for the site and contributing to Fauna. So it stands to still be an issue. Where and how do you check Rep Power/Reputation points?

I've clicked on User CP and see nothing near the bottom. If it's supposed to be in the Misc. section it's not an option that is listed there or anywhere in any of the menu options on the left-hand side.

When I click to leave myself reputation points it tells me I only have 10 even though it shows 24 on my posts.

I'm totally lost and confused on this one!

If anyone has any other ideas let me/us know!http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=26197&item=5940689331&rd=1

Lol right, I have 20 somthing and have no idea how. I guess other people leave a comment for you. I was starting to think that only people who have donated money to the site could view the rep points.

No, but actually the idea of only having Contributors able to POST reputation points is not a bad idea at all... :)

I'll have to think on that one......

wow actually I have -11 now. seems someone doesnt like what I was asking to much.

P.S I would of edit my first post , but it seems you have to "donate" for that option also.

Ok so its other members rating me? I have 22 and dont know how i I received them... LOL I know im not all here!!!!

I got a question WebSlave, you said you might be thinking of letting members post rep points for other members.Would you be able to stop a person from posting rep points for their selves? It would almost defeate the purpose if they could ehh? :hehe:

You are not able to give yourself rep points. Clicking on the icon only shows you how many points you have.

I understand that, but if your gonna let people post points for other people then whats to stop someone from logging on another name and giving themselves rep points?Thats my question. Josh McDermott

guess its just on the honor system. whats to stop buddys from patting each other on the back and giveing each other rep points on every post they make? what stops people from ganging up on someone who they dislike and giveing them neg points on every post they make? rep points is an ok idea but it is ment for people who donate money to the site. other can post, but you can not see what people send to you unless you are a donateing member.

I have had to address this problem in many other instances at many other times. The only real solution that I can see for me, at least in the instances of posting in certain areas and being able to use certain functions (like the ability to post reputation points) is to go to a fee based membership. That way someone would have to fork out a membership fee for every fake registration name in order to fraudulently post such things here.

This is likely going to have to happen sooner or later, which may wind up being an even bigger headache then the problems it is trying to fix. My initial thoughts are for a $10 per year membership or a $25 lifetime (which will really have to be set to a certain number of years to satisfy the program's structure).

Of course, this will introduce it's own problems, which should be obvious to many people. My originally naive hope was that people would just be, or at least act like, responsible adults. By now I have accepted that this just will not ever be the case here on a voluntary basis for some people. The fine and suspension system really doesn't work in the majority of cases since someone can simply set up a fake email account, register a new name, and be back here in less time then it takes to write this sentence.

So yeah, I don't like my limited options any more then anyone else will, but I've pretty much had to resolve myself to taking what could very well turn out to be a VERY bitter pill.

But if anyone else has some other solution that I haven't already thought of and had to reject for one reason on another (like my taking the time to verify manually every user who registers here), then please let me know about it.

Yeah, im not really sure exactly what should be done.As far as membership, and any kind of a payment, i personally wouldnt have a problem paying it.I love this site, it has alot of information to give.Aswell as alot of great people(and some not so great). As you stated Webslave, this in its self could have its own set of problems(the membership plan).Anyways, good luck Webslave...i think you have your job cut out for ya.If i come up with any ideas ill be sure to post them.Merry Christmas everyone! im actually starting to find the rep points system annoying. i made a comment to a post. to have someone give me negative rep points and the reason for the neg rep points was completly wrong.

Aprylla's comment
"The lizard is in overall poor condition I would say. She is thin, dehydrated and looks terrible. However, she is moving about her enclosure at the moment and appears alert. She even took a couple bites of the greens I gave her."

My comment
"god, poor uro. looks like she couldnt afford to feed it greens................ which is sad and scary"

The neagtive feedback i recieved over it comment
"looks like she couldnt afford to feed it greens ---- NOT SURE WHAT THAT HAS TO DO WITH A STOMACH FUNGUS"

I have owned a uromastyx before. I know they are suposed to be bigger in the stomch area, even aprylla said it was thin. But Because someone couldnt read both statements, i get the neg rep points...

wendygriffen, trolled back to a old post of mine against her and gave me neg rep points for it.
"Mike even though you repiled to the post of Chris' about my children that was just beyond a low even for you"
all i said in that post she was talking about was LOL in reply to another comment somone else made.....

to top it off, timmy bowles i think gave me neg rep points too.... i cant see who left the feedback, but who else would give me neg feedback for a comment to him????

I was at 21 points last night, over the comment over a starved and sick uromastyx im down to 12 (what it says in cp)? and showing up with 0 on fauna?

Now im starting to understand why other forums that has that system, gives the end user a option to disable it.

well I just gave you positve rep points. I think rep points are pretty dumb, if someone doesnt like what you say they give you neg points? ill probly get neg points for this, lol. ( rep points :toiletcla )

WOW, i just now noticed another neg rep point was on a compliment to someones aptor picture. I guess it's wrong to call someones aptor awesome.... oh, well i guess you take the good with the bad.

webslave if you read this. don't we get to see who exaclty is posting the rep points once they become a contributor? i almost wanna contribute, just so i can see whats going on with my rep points.
