• Responding to email notices you receive.

In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

It appears the new posts display is now limited to the last 100 posts. Is this correct?
I normally check the new posts from work just after midnight each day. Normally there's somewhere around 2-300 new posts. I've noticed the last couple of days there's only been 100 even. I didn't think mnuch of it until tonight.
The net was down at work last night and I didn't get to log in today at all, so it was two days since I'd checked the new posts but still only 100 were displayed.
About 10 minutes later I hit new posts again and there were 5 new posts at the top of the list, but still only 100 total.

Is this limit intentional, or is there a new setting I don't know about? I hate to miss over 100 posts per day because I only log in once a day.

Yes, this is intentional. For the reason why, imagine 50 people all checking the latest posts or using the search function at roughly the same time. And there was virtually an unlimited number of posts that could be called up for each of those searches depending on the criteria used for the search.

It doesn't take thinking too hard about this to figure out that this could become a tremendous strain on the server trying to retrieve all those matching records and displaying them. So in effect, much of the resources of this system will be allocated for a minority of people using the searching functions, which will cause the site to slow down for everyone else.

I just felt it was prudent to limit that capability to a reasonable number of returns for each search request (which also includes the display of new posts, unfortunately).

I can't access new posts?

I just logged in, and the "New Posts" button was not showing as usual. I found it under "Quick Links", but when I clicked on it I received the following VBulletin Message:

ms_terese, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

What's up?

I temporarily disabled the search function to try to troubleshoot an intermittent slowness issue. It will be back shortly. I don't believe that is the cause of the problem, but I would like to rule it out.

Sorry....

Yes, I just noticed the same thing with New Post. You know what it is, we wore the button out :). As in, everyone was using the new post search a lot and it was slowing the system down. Webslave, am I right?
