So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Hello,
I was wondering if you know a Leslie Steinmetz Her e-mail is [email protected], How were you dealings with her?
I purchased a pair of adult argentine boas from her she was posting them on Kingsnake.com classifieds she stated she must sell them we talked the price was 500.00shipped then after asking some questions about their helth age tame or now CB WC  she said I will sell them for 450.00 shipped if you want them.
I said Ok and I paypaled Her the amount of 450.00
She said they were very healthy and tame.CB 4-5 years old and proven breeders.
I got them the next day as planned and they both have very bad res infections.bubling from the mouth gaping mouths heavy weesing fluid runing out of their nose. I e-mailed her right away saying
I got the boas the female appears to have a bad res infection
the male seems to have a worse one.. I will keep you updated it could just be from shipping and being curled up in a box I got NO e-mail from her
I e-mailed her again saying nothing changed it seems to be getting worse never got an e-mail. I finaly caught her on the Instant message and asked hre if she got my e-mails she said yes.and then I get the old they never had it here it must have happend in the shipping I called some vets and talked to some breeders they all said that the res infection had to be there for weeks maybe months for it to be that bad..
at first I said I beleived her cause she seemed like an honest lady then IM'ed her back I said we need to talk about refunding and that sort of thing she said OK and I had to leave so I said I would e-mail her.

Hello, Well I was calling around  to some vets they all told me the same thing  just about..
They are bubling and weesing opening their mouth..
They dont seem to be doing very well. They can be treated and do fine but it cost alot of money.
So  We can do a couple of things.
I was getting some prices on the vet bills. It will be ruffly around 250.00 for meds etc etc.
I was thinking you could refund 200.00 of my money so I can get them well.
or I can send them back and get a refund of the 450.00 and I will bill  the shipping back to you.. or you have Fed ex come pick them up..
I will hold on to them till i get back thursday.. if you want to refund 200.00 of my money you can do that now. and I can get them started on their treatments.if you want to refund all of my money I will e-mail you back on thurs and we can find a time for you to get them picked up or give me your account number or something.
And refund the money on Thurs.
Please let me know.

      I'm sorry all this happened. But, we never discussed any of this prior to purchase. You never asked for any garuntees. I can not refund any money becuase i do not have it anymore. Aswell as for the reason that I shouldn't have to. I saw no signs of them being sicks, they are kept in my room and i see them all day long. As far as i knew they were fine.
      I don't mean to be a jerk about it. But i have no further responsibilty. You bought them, and its out of my hands now. I'm really sorry this happened. if i knew they were ill i never would have put them up for sale. I have had that happen before that snakes have gotten sick before i went to sell them, and i told the buyer that i wouldnt sell them anymroe becuase they became ill.
      As far as i knew there was nothing wrong with them. You didn't ask for any health garuntees. If we had discussed that it would have been a different story.

If they arrived with a RI she owes you a full refund. There's no such thing as "health guarantee" when you buy a reptile you assume it's healthy (unless clearly stated otherwise) as well as you assume it will arrive alive. Yes, you can report her for misrepresentation of goods. Dan get in touch with PayPal right away, I don't know if payment can be stopped in this situation but they will inform you on what action to take.

I think a health guarantee only comes with the deal.
I do not think it has to be said or discussed.
It comes automatically.

Did you pay to get a healthy or a sick snake?

There is now way they could be dripping at the mouth from only one or two nights of shipping.

You asked her questions and she avoided them by lowering the price.  You did not even ask her to lower it.  She just did it on her own.  Sounded too fishy.

Definately Bad guy at least in my book.


If she would have told you about their health condition...then you still bought them.  Then it is up to you.  I have obtained sick snakes before.  And I knew they were sick so it was not a problem.
 
Report it to PayPal, the FBI's internet fraud depratment, the local authorities (yours and hers), and KEEP AFTER HER!

The sad thing is that you might not get anything out of her, but if you go down, go down swinging.  At least you have put her bad practices on here for others to see.  Add another one to the list, everyone.  Obviously a bad person to do business with!

Sorry this has happened to you guys.  I hope you can get your money back, or at least get the animals healthy if you are stuck with them.

I do not know what part of the world you are from or she is from.
BUT
In my part of the world it is summer time.  I am having to use cooling packs to keep the baby snakes from overheating during transport.

I am having to worry about them over heating and dying....
I am NOT worrying about getting them to cold and getting RI

Not only that.  The baby boas are more susceptible to temperature extremes than the adults are.

Hello,  I have talked to paypal and some other people. Supposaly paypal is getting sued??
I heard it on the news so I dont suppose they can do much. I went to the fraud site they didnt do anything last time this happend. no its not the first time we have been ripped off..
She e-mailed me after I told her that I would go to the athoritys that she would give me 200.00 back.. I am suppose to get it today. I figure i can get them care if nothing else I can sell them to someone who will be able to care for them better than me for 200.00
and they will know what they are getting into before hand I want to keep my rep good.

Yes I know now that it was fishy that she downed the price without me even saying something.

I just ordered an Argus monitor hatchling from her, and didn't have any problems whatsoever.
 The animal arrived perfect and healthy, and was represented accurately. In fact he's hammering roaches as I write this. Leslie was prompt in replies to me and when I showed apprehension about shipping it FedEx, she guaranteed the shipment and that she'd take full responsibility, should anything happen. She did note that she picked it up at the White Plains show in NY only a month prior. Regal Reptiles Stock. They confirmed it to be CB.
  I'm not trying to downplay your situation any, just wanted to put up the other side of the spectrum. I'm very sorry that your dealings didn't go as well as mine, and I hope everything works out okay for you.

FYI, Leslie's location in the monitor ad was Stamford, CT. This also matched the shipping label on the box.

The only thing that I can suggest is in the future, get the guarantee in writing, like I did. I've been very paranoid about dealing with "unknowns" and so far it has worked to my advantage.

That sounds a little too advanced of an RI for it to have happened during shipping.

I thought that customers were entitled to refunds across the board (once the product is returned) unless the seller states up front "as is" or "final sale" or "no refunds".  

Poor snakes.

Hope she makes this right.

Think on it this way, Pennebaker. If you ask a ton of questions and the seller is willing to answer them all, then you should have the confidence to go through them. I think someone looking to make a quick buck will have second thoughts if you spend a lot of time getting them to answer every nitpick you might have. It may complicate things to some extent, but if someone really cares more about the animals than making a quick sale, they'll take the time to answer your questions.

Hi Dan, Really sorry to hear about your bad experience! Everyone else has already stated your due either a refund or vetbills paid so i'm not going to add to that. You asked what you need to do to get them better. Regardless of whether or not she refunds the money or you resolve the disagreement, you need to do right by the snakes and that's get them to a vet a.s.a.p. so they can get antibiotics and you can get more info on the extra care your going to have to give them! URI's are serious and it sounds like they've already started downhill seriously and you can't just ship them again or it'll be a death sentence for them. It's possible they can get uri's during shipments because the flights are not heated and it's freezing up there, but you wouldn't see those health problems for a week or so probably and they would probably have just been lethargic or gaping at first, so it sounds like they might have been sick and then the flight atleast made them worse if not showing those symptoms before hand. The only way your going to get them better is with the proper antibiotic dosages daily as well as a little extra warm temps nightly as well as fluids daily. I haven't had to treat any snakes so can't help with specifics but have plenty of experience with rescue lizards with uri's and you have to be consistent with daily care and getting them healthy or it'll be a total loss. Chances are if they've been sick awhile they're going to be dehydrated too so talk to the vet about rehydrating, extra calcium and probiotics and if those can help them repopulate gutflora to help fight infection. After you've got them better you can decide if you want to sell knowing you did the right thing. Good luck! Okay, I've had enough!! AGAIN!! I can't believe the pollution that fills the air...and innocent, unsuspecting buyers must breathe it. All we want is honesty, and peace of mind in our transactions. It's a shame we still have more than a few of these "sellers" in our midst (although the BOI does help!!&#33<img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'> Here's an idea. I'm seriously considering quitting my day job, and becoming a nationwide bounty hunter. With Luna's homework I'm sure I could find them!!! Knock on their door, introduce myself as a friend of the person they just ripped off and "you know the rest of the story"!! I'm **ssed off!!

I honestly would like to see Leslie's side of this whole ordeal.
Perhaps someone should write her to let her know what's going on.

I don't like seeing only 1 side of the story. It reminds me too much of rumors at work. "My wife does this, blah blah, I don't get any quarter, blah blah." Leslie's not here to explain or suffer the slings and arrows the disgruntled denizens of this board have prepared. I think that it is also in her right to tell her side of the story. If indeed the snakes were sent with RI, then she should be here to explain WHY.

Just my humble opinion. I know I'd want to know when I was being slagged, even if the other party had full reason and right to do so.

Hello, I am sorry I havent kept up on this thread.
I have been away. Before I left Leslie said that she would refund 200.00 of my money for vet bill. She paypaled it to me some way like a check it had to clear when I got back the check had cleared and everything is fine.
I thank everyone for their posts and Leslie for helping me out by giving 200.00 prompt like she said she would after we talked for a bit.

If the shipping label said CT but she is in MO then she in all likelihood had the animals drop shipped to you. That would mean that she possibly never even saw the animals at all before shipping. I'm just speculating of course but it seems to make sense.
