In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Need opinions please

Alright guys I need opinions.

I just recieved a few sulcata hatchlings from a what I thought to be a good breeder. (Won't say name on here) And they were shipped over night ups in a box with the side cut out and lined with screen mesh. 2 tiny 1 hour heat packs, with no insulation what so ever. They were placed in thin plastic see thru deli cups and 1 crinkled sheet of news paper over them thats it(I do have pics) I recieved them so cold and dirty that it took all day under heat lamps and warm soaks to bring them even out of the shells. (got them yesterday) today they are still very cold to the touch and have bubbles comming from their noses, puffy skin by the back legs(blown up like a baloon) and gasping for air(Like a resp infection) I took them to the emergency vet clinic last night because they got worse and confirmed they had resp. infections. He said do what I am doing. feed them with a syringe chicken broth and veggie baby food. they are eating fine and soaking but eyes are so dry they have to rub them with their legs to get them to open.

I have a lot of experience with reptiles and A nearby store often gets res and boxies in and calls me to take them(they nick named me "the reptile rescue" because I take in so many drop offs from them:hence the name :) and yes I know the proper reqirements and such for these animals so don't bother with the speech :)

My question is after I got them I imediatly contacted the seller with my concerns who wants me to ship them back and was very upset at my complaint. I refuse to send them back because no sick animal needs to go thru that stress when they are sick!. she wants them back and stats theres nothing wrong and she can quickly resell them since they are hatchlings.

What should I do? I don't want them to get sicker with the shipping back process. But I don't think I should have recieved sick animals or animals shiped in this matter(one also has a bloody stump from the loss of a nail durring shipping im guessing)
Should I ship back and buy elsewhere, Should I ask for partial refund? has this hapend to you guys? if so what did you do or what would you do? Im afraid if she gets them back they will dye so I think they are in good hands with me, but why should I pay for sick animals? please give me your opinions

300.00 for tortoises
150 in first day vet care
price of those tiny faces looking up at you....priceless!

I would post this on the BOI. While we have only heard one side of the story, the response that there isn't an issue in light of a vet's diagnosis stating that there is shows a blatant disregard for the animals and the customer. These are the type of people I would like to know about so as to avoid. Everyone makes mistakes and errors in judgement, but the true merit of a vendor comes out in how they handle the situation. By your side of the story is seems this vendor is lacking.

I agree. Post this on the BOI and notify the seller that you are doing so. That way, both sides of the story can be seen, and the process can help thos little guys in the best possible light.

I agree that it needs to be in the BOI...but that doesn't help you with your situation.

This actually has happened several times that I'm aware of. People must choose whether or not they will sacrifice the animal's well being in order to get a refund, or get totally ripped off by paying for unhealthy animals, and then contributing to treatment on top of it.

I, personally, would keep the animals, get a copy of the vet's report stating they had RIs, take photos of the packaging, and ask the seller for an equitable settlement. If they refused, I'd post report that to the BOI as well, and let them suffer the consequences.

While the shipping sounds completely substandard, the seller may truly not believe that the RIs could have come on that quickly...many people do not realize how rapidly an RI can develop under the proper (or, more fittingly, improper) circumstances. For that reason, I suggest making sure the seller sees the verification from the vet first.

Good luck, and keep us posted!

I'm going to be blunt. Stories like this absolutely disgust me. It takes so little effort to properly ship a reptile there's no excuse whatsoever for being that stupid to send live animals in that fashion.
It's people like that that make it so difficult to get any of the carriers to accept herps.
Based on this side of the story, the seller appears to have no regard for the animals whatsoever but wants them back because she can "quickly resell them".

I agree with the previous posts completely. Take pictures of the torts, scan the vet report if you can, and post the pictures of the packaging on the BOI.
People who ship animals like that deserve no business at all and the rest of the comunity needs to know about their actions.

As for what to do about the refund, that's tougher. On the one hand if you do what I just suggested, despite the fact it needs to be done, it's unlikely you'll get any compensation.
The seller apparently doesn't believe you actually have a problem, and evidentally doesn't see the gross error they committed themselves.
I understand your desire for compensation, and in my opinion you deserve a 100% refund and still keep the animals. They definately do not need to be shipped again in their condition.
That choice is up to you, and it's a hard one to make.

Good luck with those torts, they're terrific animals and I hope you are able to bring them through this situation which they should have never been put through.

It has already been suggested and I will just day ditto to: you sending the vet's documentation and bill to the dealer for recompense. If the dealer does not make a fair and equitable restitution to you, there is always small claims court.

Now as far as this goes:
and yes I know the proper reqirements and such for these animals so don't bother with the speech
What speech was it to which you were making reference?????????? A bit presumptive on your part, and none too courteous, in my opinion. End of speech.....

All the best,
Glenn B;)

question

This sounds real familar to me. In fact i think the guy you bought them from put a post on here. I can't seem to find it right now, but i know i read it.
Didn't he answer you righ away and tell you one not to soak them and two to send them back the next day? If i remember correct he asked for the vet bill and never recieved it.
I wish i could find the post because it has all the email responses from the both of you.
Maybe i have you confued with someone else, but its wierd that you have the same name as the lady that man was dealing with.

found it

The other side of this story is in general herp talk!!!!!!!! I suggest that people read that before we jump to our opinions.
Not trying to start anything, just want to make sure everyone knows what the whole story is!
