    =====================

I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

Ok I know there was another post about Big Apple sending spiders in their cricket orders.. I just rceived my biweekly order from reptilefood.com and it had 32, yeah I said 32 spiders of 2 different species in one box.. And thats the ones I could catch and kill. I kept 8 or so to take pics of.. Can anyone recommend a cricket company that does not send "additional species" with your order? Here is what I was told

"Julia: The spiders that get into the crickets are common brown spiders that are harmless. I can get a refund for you if you would prefer. That many spiders in an order is very uncommon and very unlikely to happen again."

Now I know that all spiders have a form of venom, some of course are milder than others.. But harmless, nope.. I am allergic to bee stings so I would imagine any mild venom woudl cause the swelling or even anaphalitic shock like a bee sting would.. Anywho just thought I would let you guys know.. Thanks,

That is disgusting.

I am definitely scared to order crickets from them anymore. I found a few spider in a shipment from them a few weeks ago, but have not seen any in subsequent weeks.

Who does everyone recommend from crix?

www.ebugco.com The Bug Company, I order both mealworms and have ordered crix from them and have never seen a spider in an order; which is good cuz I personally do not care much for spiders.

Many of these guys dropship the crickets. This means that you place the order with them, then they place an order with their supplier, who ships directly to you with the first compnaies packingslip. I bet you are dealing with the same supplier as the prior post from a week or two ago. Are at let the same couple of suppliers.

I have used armstrong in the past and was very pleased with every order. Not ine single spider. If im not mistaken they ship the crickets theirself so you arent getting anything from a 2nd party.

I think th Bug Company ships their own stuff, they have these terrific little cardboard boxes with screening and their company name for the crix, and (since I order lots of mealworms at one time) large boxes imprinted with their name with 2 individual bags inside. With no spiders.
They are also prompt, courteous, and had set up an account for me so I would not have to reorder each month.
Yuck. Spiders. What else will the reptile world have to deal with?

I used reptilefood.com when I kept herps that ate crickets and I was always very happy with the product I received.
I assume that since you receive bi-weekly orders from them that their quality has been pretty good up until now and they did offer a refund when you contacted them with a complaint regarding this order.

Based on my past experience with them, I'll probably buy from them again this summer when I hatch out my tegus unless this sort of thing becomes a pattern.

Yup I WAS happy, but something like that only takes one time for me... I have used armstrong in the past and bugco in a jam from my mocal place that has the groovy little "to go " boxes..lol This hasent been my first problem though.. Just the first that I thought that should be brought public...

Maybe these will start showing up next?

EEeeeeew.....creepy crawlies!!!!!!

I guess different strokes for different folks, I am not knocking the guys who keep bugs as pets but not me buddy no way nohow........

I am studying for my torts final and one of the chapters we are covering is 'nuisance'. It was held to be a 'nuisance' when someone bought a pie from a pie company that had a cockroach baked into it.

Yeah buddy.......

Yeah I agree. There are so many cool herps I would love to keep, like leopard Geckos, and Chameleons, but I just can't tollerate the bugs. Gosh they stink.

S~

Yeah they can stink after a week or so.. Thats why I have the right amount of cresteds that I can go through 2k in a week and not have to put up with them.. Gte them here gut loadem, dust them and they are gone..lol

That's how I would look at it. Lizards/Geckos love spiders, so I would just consider it an additional food source for variety.

Omg I get sqeemish when I see the antennea (sp)? of the crickets stickin out the beardies mouth or a pinkie leg or something. I couldn't imagine seeing 8 legs.................... :>Puke<:

That’s gross.

I currently buy my mealworms, superworms and used to buy crickets (I’m now using roaches) from www.sunshinemealworms.com. I haven’t had any spiders in the orders. I’ve tried so many different companies over the years and Sunshine is the best of them by far. If you have the room and time raise all your own feeders and that will eliminate the “extra bugs”.

Sunshine Mealworms does not have problems with spiders but recently their crix have become infested with the "fuzz bugs", the fuzzy worm larvae and the adult small black FLYING beetle. They are some variety of Dermestid (flesh-eating) beetle. I'm not really sure which is worse, spiders or flying flesh-eating beetles. Cody, you must not have ordered from them in at least a year or you'd have gotten fuzz bugs from them. I get at least 100 in each order... (is this post off-topic?)

Nope not off topic at all.. I have gotten the fuzzy worms too.. They kinda freak me out too... Odd that I can stick a peice of metal in a snakes butt, beat rats in the head and cut there skulls open but I am afrais of spiders...lol.. And flesh eating anyting.. I kinda like my flesh on my bones...lol

I haven’t order crickets from Sunshine in over 2 years. I’ve been using roaches instead. :) Most suppliers use the “fuzz bugs” (not sure of their real name) as a clean up crew in the cricket containers. Their completely harmless but more annoying than anything. I’d rather have them than spiders. Yeek!!

I have used ebugco and express crickets without any issues. With that many spiders in the box I don't think I would feed one cricket from that batch. That is a quick way to lose business in my book.
