In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    Addendum: 01/10/2026
    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

a lucky pick up for me and the pick up

i was working at the petshop friday afternoon/evening when a gentleman can in with a boa complete with full setup . he said that some people had been evicted and when he went in to start the clean up of the apartment(he's the maintenence man ) he found this poor critter abandonded there . my boss and i opened the tank and got the boa out . she/he had between 2 and 4 layers of old shed covering approx 50% of her body and had several mouse or rat bites on her tail . she/he is also thin as a rail . the worst one being right at the tip of her/his tail . she/he just looked pathetic . also the tank had multiple piles of fecal matter and old shed scattered profusely through it . i got her/him home and spent a few hours soaking and gently removing as much of the old shed as i could . once i got all but the last 3 inches or so of her/his tail cleaned up i treated the bites with triple antibiotic ointment and put her/him in a 10 gallon tank so i can observe her/him easily for the next couple weeks . since she/he is so thin saturday morning i decided to offer her/him a weened rat to see if she/he would eat . i'm glad to say she/he took it without hesitation . also when i fed her/him i saw that she had gotten almost all of the remaining shed off(all but the last quarter inch of her tail where the worst bites are) . she/he seems much more alert and active already and is just a beautiful little critter . i'm going to leave her/him be for the moment since it seems the worst is past . in a few days i'm going to try to get the last little bit of shed off of her/him . most of the bites seemed to be superficail and once the old shed was off most are almost gone . the tip of her/his tail though is still questionable . i am pretty sure she/he is going to be perfectly fine once she/he gains some weight . i just dont understand how someone can do this sort of thing to an animal that is completely dependent on a person for their health and well being . it just really upsets me to see something like this . i took a couple pics after i had gotten most of the shed off of her/him and i'll post them at the end of this . i believe she/he may be a central american local boa but am not sure at the moment . as much as i hate to see this happen to critters i am glad that she/he came to me so that she/he can have a good life now . if anyone can tell what local she/he is i would appreciate your comments . the pics are not the best as i didnt want to disturb her/him more than i had to already . i'll post some better ones in a week or so when she/he has had time to settle in a bit . i'm also waiting till she/he is in a bit better shape bafore i probe to find out wheather its a he or a she so thats why all the double gender refrences . anyways here are the pics i got . thanks in advance to any who might have an idea on her/his local .

He's lucky to be in your hands. I think that you are right about him being from Central America, but exactly where will only be a guess. Keep us posted on his progress.

i cant stand people that are that cruel to their reptiles. its a good thing that you were able to rescue him/her before things gotten worse..

high five to you and the maintence man for bringing him in

thanks yall . she/he seems to be very alert at this point . she tracks me everytime i walk by her tank . i think she is expecting more rats . i think next feeding i'll offer two weened rats . i just didnt want her to regurg her first meal . from the looks of her she hasnt been fed very well in the past .

just a quick update . the tip of her tail where it had been badly chewed has fallen off . i came home from work last night and found it in her tank . i checked her and it seems to have almost healed under the old tip with just a little red dot where it seperated . she lost about 1/8th of an inch . i was afraid it would be this way . the good news is that was the last of the old shed and damage that was left to be removed and she is looking much better now . the other mouse rat bites seem to have been superficail and are barely visble . i think another shed or 2 and she will be scar free(except the tip which i dont think will be noticable) . i just feel so bad for what this poor critter had to go through , i'm glad she is here now .

Wow, great job with him/her. Some people are just despicable but luckily there are good folks like you around.

thank you jamie . for me its more of a passion than a hobby . i've been facinated by snakes since i was 5 . i dont like seeing any animal suffer needlessly , but snakes have always been special to me . i'm so happy i have gotten back into them after 8 years without . :scatter:

Hey good save Mark. :hurray: Nice looking one too. Couldn't say about the C.A. part by the pics. Nice looking either way. Hope it eats well, and does a nice turn around for You.

Rick

thanks rick . i saw the pics of your new babies , their awesome . i had him out today (i'm hoping its a male anyways) so i could check his tail and clean his cage , so i took a couple pics while he was laying on the blanket . the tail seems to be ok . its not inflamed or anything so i think it will be ok in a couple sheds . anyways heres the pics .

You should be able to do a quick sexing by looking for the spurs near the anus that occur in males.

Eh......it's not just males that have spurs. ;)

Great job, Mark. I think he's a lucky guy to have found you!
