• Responding to email notices you receive.
    **************************************************
In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Well, that didn't go well at all. :face_palm_02:

Apparently there is some sort of connectivity issue between the new data center and the data center my server is currently located within. File transfer speed is abysmally slow. I mean, like, nearly dial-up speed slow. The packaged account file that contains my second largest site is STILL slowly crawling to the destination. It was only at 27% last night, and still not finished at the moment. The file for THIS site is about four times larger. So do the math.

So with this site having been down for over 35 hours, and no end in sight, I decided to re-open it, and then delay restarting the process of transferring FaunaClassifieds.com to the new server until the server tech guys can figure out what the problem is with the file transfer speeds. As it was looking to me, it was going to take probably an entire week just to transfer this site, which wouldn't even begin until the other site being transferred right now has completed. So this site was down for 35 hours for basically nothing. :time_waiting_01:

Oh yeah, so far every site that has been transferred to their server is now failing when I try to send outgoing emails from them. THAT certainly needs to be fixed as well. :bandhead0

So, we are back. For a while anyway. They are either going to get the problems ironed out, or else I have to can the entire idea of the server move to that particular host. So much for picking a company just chock full of nothing but good reviews online.

As I mentioned, this sort of operation is always a real fun time....... :ack2:

BTW, the server techs are going to be trying some things, so with FaunaAds and FaunaTopSites on that new server, this is likely to make the road a little bumpy here loading pages.

I hope I have a large enough supply of Excedrin.... Maybe I need to see if I can buy a case of it off of Ebay.

I use Excedrin Migraine. Only one I've tried that actually helps me with headaches.

Well, I recently got a message from the server guys saying that they think they have figured out the problem. But they are still doing some testing. Yeah, they used the word in a singular manner, not plural. There are PROBLEMS, guys.

Even if I become convinced that the problems are fixed, I'm not likely to shut this site down and attempt the migration again until the weekend.

So we will see....

Well, this didn't end well.

The server guys at the new data center were telling me that the problem HAD to be at my old server's data center. Well, what I wanted to know was how could that data center affect the slow downloads I was getting from their server to my home PC sitting on my desk? Both uploads and downloads from their server were from 5 to 10 times SLOWER than what I was able to get out of my old server. Crickets chirping..

They suggested that I could download the migration file from my old server to my home PC, and then upload from there to the new server since the transfer would be faster that way. I did a rough calculation and figured it would take at least 4 days to do that. Assuming the transfer didn't choke up at any time during the process requiring a restart.

Then all the outgoing emails were failing from all the accounts associated with any of my domain names that got migrated to the new server. They said it was a configuration problem on my end. Well, I changed the DNS pointers to point back to my old servers, and guess what? Emails started working again.

I asked them four times about the status of the migration of my CornSnakes.com website and they never answered.

So I gave up. I pointed all the DNS pointers back to the old servers, and now everything is back the way it was before I started the server move. Lost some days in some of my sites that couldn't be locked down, unfortunately. But my choices were limited. I didn't trust the new data center to move my sites BACK to my old servers and not screw something else up for me. So I had no choice but to just bite the bullet and roll back.

Maybe I will try this again some day, but not going to be anytime REAL soon, I'll tell you that.

So anyway, I still have a problem with one of my domain accounts not being able to do emails up or down, but I think the DNS info likely has a mistake in it. And one of my real minor sites is flagging a database problem.

Now I've got to contact that new server hosting company and tell them where they can stick that server and give me a refund.

Yeah, this was the absolute WORST server move I have ever experience since I've been doing this crap. And I have seriously been through some doozies over the years.

So much for picking a company just chock full of nothing but good reviews online.

I wonder if those were fake reviews? With real reviews, like on the BOI, every once in a while a good guy will have an issue, and sometimes people change, but one hopes that a string of good reviews would be a predictor of future behavior.

One would think that if the reviews for this company were real, they would have enough expertise and/or connections with people who do, to get the move done.
I'm sorry you had all those aggravations.
