I wish I had more time to give the full story with quotes and whatnot, but I will do the best with what I can.
About 2 months ago David offered to buld me a website. It seemed like a fair price and the pages he built for a couple other people looked nice, so I decided to go for it. I gave him an $80 deposit.
He said he would have it done by the show in mid-march. This is when I started checking to see if any progress had been made on the site.
I sent him several emails asking about the status of the site and didn't recieve a response. On May 25th I sent an email saying that it had been too long and I knew he still hadn't purchased my domain or built the site.
He responded saying that it was available to preview through the "site we discussed earlier." I had previously asked him to post it on a free hosting site I registered so I could see it. I checked that out again after he sent me his response and there was still no content.
He then replied saying he emailed me a preview of the site and I must not have gotten it or something. He then sent a link to a page on HIS site with a preview. It was missing several things I had already asked for, but that wasn't the problem. I no longer felt comfortable doing business with him, so I sent him an email telling him why.
He then sent me an email accusing me of backing out because I couldn't afford it and blocking him on MSN (I already told him previously I don't have access to MSN any longer).
I sent him another email asking for my money back and telling him I didn't want to do business with him.
Today I got an interesting email. He says he's giving me 2 choices. 1- have him build the rest of the site and pay him the remaining money, or 2- back out, forfeit the money I already payed him, and have him possibly take me to court to get the rest of the money I "promised" him. Of course he can't actually take somebody from another country to court in Ontario over such a small amount of money, but I still didn't appreciate the threat.
What's going on here? Is there anything I can do to get my money back or do I have to have him finish the site?
Thanks for your input,
Jordan Jansen
