Mr. Lopez at Black Forest Constrictors is a small individual boid breeder working with some cool morphs and well known blood lines. His lovely snakes are offered below average market price in many cases due to his limited space (he's got to move offspring at a good rate) and his name not being well known. I myself found his stock listings right here on Fauna Classifieds and used the BOI to decide if ordering from someone so little known was a safe investment for me. I have to say like the couple of BOI postings before mine that I am a satisfied customer and Ash had exactly what I was looking for (I didn't know what I was looking for until I saw it) at a price I could budget (I tend to end up spending more money than what I say I want to spend on a particular species). The Black Forest Constrictors website doesn't work but the contact info is viewable and up to date. Being a small breeder his annual stock is limited but full of beauties and gems worth their price.
Ash answered my questions within a reasonable amount of time, though I wish his replies were more thorough rather than quick 1 liners. Still I did get the information I needed and he was open for talking briefly on the phone for me to learn more about the animal in depth. I was looking for a docile animal to be a pet and potentially an educational animal with a possibility of breeding it. Ash was understanding of my concern with the snake's temperament and genetic background. Much to my surprise and delight he didn't turn me down for a payment plan as many a seller has, so he was very accommodating. He was trusting of me, considerate of my financial situation and of my feeling of not wanting to drop a bunch of cash on an animal I didn't get to have for several months due to inappropriate shipping weather. Not sure if he has any set policies on payment plans (minimum purchase amount, percent of deposit down, repayment term, etc).
Okay so now onto the animal I received. My boy matched his description in photo, size, and temperament. Just as beautiful in person with good color saturation and a joy to finally hold. Attached are 2 of the breeder's photos (the first 2) taken at different times and then 2 of my own photos (the last 2) from when I unpacked him for comparison. A well represented, healthy, tongue flicking, curious, shiny, animal without a scale out of place and at an amazing cost. My only complaint about the animal is that I can tell from the time I placed money down to the time I could recieve him that he lost some weight. He was by no means an unhealthy weight just not at the weight I personally thought he should be at. Photos are below to judge for yourself (photo 1 is the breeder's listing photo, photo 2 from two months later at 75% paid off, photo 3&4 my photos from after I unboxed him). I was informed that he did only received large meals biweekly rather than being fed modest meals at least once a week as is believed the proper method for baby snakes. The snake himself has no problems eating and nails f/t at the speed of light then death spirals around it in a way I have not personally experienced. It's an amazing experience to have the opportunity to feed such a powerful animal. Even when I was a snake afraid child boas captured my curiosity more than my fear so it's a dream come true to own such a powerful yet gentle beast. I am so glad that Mr. Lopez worked with me and gave me the opportunity to make owning such an amazing animal possible for me. Glad he was willing to part with this little gem. I would suggest Black Forest Constrictors if someone asked me where they could find a nice boa at a good price.
