In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Yes the party who actually received the snake decided he wanted to address this himself.

Yes, it needs to be addressed. I could make a fairly educated guess on who donated the poor thing. A quick look at the vendors list spoke for itself.

I'm the one that "won" the snake in the raffle they had at the show. And yes, he does have mites. I didn't notice the mites until i got him home and onto some heat. And i guess the heat brought them out from under his scales. I've never dealt with mites before but i'm doing everything in my power to clear him of them.

I'm not posting this to blame anyone, or anything else, basically a fair warning. Right at this point, i have emailed Allen Belcher, which is the one that handed me the snake (Roark Ferguson done the raffle holding the snake, i showed Roark my ticket, he took me to allen, handed the snake to allen, and then allen handed me the snake.) I have emailed allen asking for info on the snake, as at the show, they handed me the snake and that was all, no info about him etc. So i emailed allen before knowing about the mites and found out this info only...

"the snake was given to us to raffle off or give as a door prize. I was told it was cb and should be about 2-3 years old and it ate for us the last two weeks we had it. That is all the info I have. Best of luck and thanks for the comments. Allen" -Exact email i received

Once i found out about the mites, i emailed him, i have not heard back from him. Last night is when i found a couple mites, so i treated him with ""Natural Chemistry, Reptile Releif" (Which i received in the bag of samples for buying VIP Passes). Than today, i went to walmart, got me a small tub and betadine. And soaked him in fresh water, and then i took him out, mixed in the betadine and soaked him with that. His cage i took out doors, soaked it for a LONG time, with with bleach, and then also blasted it with water. Than i sprayed the cage out with the reptile releif, and then cleaned it all with nolvasan.

Than after i done all of that, everyone that has handled him since i got home, i made ALL take a shower, and ALL of the clothes went directly into the washer. And then i also sprayed down a lot of places with reptile releif. Hmm, hopefully i've described everything, and any tips or advice any one would like to give me, i'd love to hear it. I'll send any updates needed, but right at this point, i'm just trying to clear the animal of any mites!

Wow. It seems that no good deed goes unpunished! I am glad to hear that you won one of the two ball pythons that were given away along with a lot of fine products from vendors and sponsors. As a matter of fact the two ball pythons were donated by two different vendors of good reputation and apparant generosity. I was fortunate to be at this highly succerssful event as the main speaker and volunteered to make the announcements and call out the winning ticket numbers between my shows. The two ball pythons I believe were donated just before they were announced as door prizes. I won't reveal the names of the vendor's because it would serve no purpose and cause unnecessary embarrassment. Also negative publicity over an unintended slight might cause future vendors at shows to not donate prizes which would do more harm than good. It is ironic indeed that you recieved Natural Chemistry's Reptile Relief in your vip package...I know Allen (one of the 2 show promoters) has not been to his email today because he has not answered any of mine today. I'm sure he'll attend to your concerns in an appropriate manner when he becomes aware of it. The show had steady traffic appropriate for both days even though tornados struck close by on Friday night. Saturday was overcast and rainy early on. Many vendors had great sales and many products and animals were seen leaving the building toted by happy customers. I hope the unintended addition of mites won't spoil your overall impression of the show which you did not indicate. It seems that you have covered all necessary protocol in the treatment for mites which can be an all too common problem in this industry. Normal quarantine procedures call for immediate examination/soaking of all new snakes followed by a 30 day isolation from established animals upon arrival. I don't care who or where you recieve your items from this is a tradition honored system that has served many well since the beginning of herpetoculture. Even animals that are transferred from one zoological park to another are subject to quarentine procedures. I hope all comes out well for you. How many shows have you attended prior to this one and how many reptiles in your collection (if any) were exposed to the new ball python? What were your feelings/observations about the event prior to the discovery of the mites? I handled the animal for perhaps two minutes and did not observe any even though I looked at my hands (2nd nature) after holding him aloft for the raffle. Getting rid of the mites should not prove difficult and it appears you are familiar with treatment procedures. Again congratulations on winning a ball python. Looking forward to your overall thoughts on the show. - Roark Ferguson

Hello Roark,
I'm sure you remember me, I won the first one (The one with the three girls that you took the picture with your bermese first thing in the morning..i'm sure you remember). And no, this is my only BP, i do have a crested gecko and a bearded dragon, but the ball has been no where around them. He is in a seperate room than all other reptiles for the time being. And no i'm not trying to cause any embarressment, or trying to play the blame game. It was simply brought up, so i went ahead and gave an explination. Yes when i found them i was a little upset, more for the fact that i have other reptiles and it definetley scared me as i have never had to deal with them. I'm in no way trying to criticize anyone and definetley had a good time there (I'm sure you could tell, i was there all day, and came back the next day and talked to you several time through out the day). Thats why i simply just said everything that happened and that is all. I think it is fair that i just let everyone know, right?! And yes, i have emailed allen, he has emailed me back once last night but has not today, and my email simply just stated that i had found mites, and asked for any suggestions. Had nothing negative in it, unless you consider i said "i was upset that he had mites" but I mean, under first observation of that, i think that is understandable. But i have done everything in my power so far to get him clean. So far he looks good, haven't noticed another mite so far, so hopefully everything goes well.

I was dying to attend the show..so thrilled that GA was participating/chosen in promoting reptile keeping!! Unfortunately, unforseen events prevented me from attending..sadly, as I had made arrangements with some vendors to see their stock.

Hoping to hear anyones comments about the show..hopefully, what a success it was!

Personally, and maybe this counts for nothing, I'd be very grateful for winning a snake..even if it had mites. You can always treat the mites, and although it is a bear, you'll conquer them and be one ball python for the richer!! I couldnt complain abou that. But then, I dont have a huge collection that could've been hit by the mites, but if quarentined correctly, this shouldnt be an issue.

We have a saying from where I come from..dont look gift horse in the mouth..it essentially means, if you're given something, dont look for fault in it..it's a gift, and be grateful.

Like i said, it was brought up, so i just gave an explination. And i am grateful, and already told allen that in my opinion the show went great. I had a great time. The snake seems very nice, i'm already attached ;] But it was brought up, so i gave an explination, and also just wanting tips advice. I've NEVER dealt with it, and it freaked me out! But the show was wonderful, most vendors were real nice, had a good time talkin to a few of them. Very knowledgable people, all that good stuff. It was nice to talk to people with a good bit of knowledge (Live, rather than online!). If i could come up with a complaint about the show, the only thing i could come up with, from what i NOTICED, i wish more vendors, or someone gave out care sheets! Seemed like some animals were being sold to people that knew nothing. Bout the onl thing i could come up with! At the show, i never noticed the mites, even had a breeder (he wasn't a vendor at the show) take a look at him, he said he looked real good (the snake that is). Anyways, wish i could give you some pictures of the show, but of course we left the house and said AHHHH Forgot the camera!!! haha.
