In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I know somebody on another site, www.turtletimes.com, where a woman called beanster, an iguana owner, has a very sick igguana. He is a great animal. his name is JenJen and a great icon in her area. He was shot with a BB gun pellet. this has given him amounts of lead and zinc in his blood. please go here and see if you can help her.

Levi, she is welcome here; but it does sound like she must have a vet's advice since you are posting about the lead and zinc. Why not ask her to post here and tell us what has happened so far?

well, she has gotten a lot of advice. every vet she brings him to says he is a dead end. the vet gave her something to help. it will supposably get all the lead and zinc out. I will mention the idea to her.

I was finally able to log in.Yes,I have three vets on the case.We did bloodtests(general panel and tox screen),fecal,X-Ray and urine. It is not a BB gun pellet but an airgun pellet, used to hunt small animals. Most are made of lead but some have zinc or copper in them.We don't know which one it is but the tox screen did show a low level lead and zinc poisoning. He has low blood albumin but protein in his urine.Based on that the vets concur that an operation is out of the question. It is possible that the kidneys got injured as the pellet is stuck right in front(above on the X-Ray)of his left kidney. It has not moved. We took several X-Rays over weeks. So the question is:where to go from here. The vet declared it a dead-end.I am treating him right now with Bentonite to draw the metals out of him and give the kidneys a rest.I hydrate him and spoonfeed him to keep his nutrition up.He altogether does not look that bad,his color is good,he takes and interest in what's going on and headbobs but he has developed gout(swellings)and cannot use his back legs.Any help or idea would be appreciated.

After a talk with Dr.Cauble it was decided that the pellet has to come out as the effects of poisoning are altready there and are going to get worse. So I set up an appointment with Dr.Greek.the files and X-Rays are already on the way so he knows what to expect.PLease send good thoughts that the operation will be a success and my iggy-son will be a healthy, happy lizard again.

Sabine, good luck. Iggy and you are in our prayers, thank you for being a leader and putting forth such an effort to save your iguana. You are a great example.

Any new news ? I will keep you and you beloved Iggy
In my thoughts and prayers. You are a good Mom, to him.
It is wonderful to see owners that value thier pet over
thier pocketbook.

On Friday we will be off to Dr.Greek for the surgey. It is going to be a long ride, like an hour and a half away but he is the only one I trust with the surgery.I will keep you posted.

Yes please keep us updated.Im gonna say a ltitle prayer for your iggy and hope he makes it through. If he survives this he better get some action from that female you were talkin about on turtletimes! :)

Well,I can report that the operation was a success. The objects were in his digestive system so he had eaten them at some time. One is a little lump of lead(could be a sinker or souldering lead)and the other unidentifiable but some metal, too. It was a three-hour surgery. Now,four weeks later the difference is enormous;his color is good,he is alert and keeps his frontal part of his body up and has some muscular function back in his legs and tail.He still cannot walk but otherwise he looks good. The swelling in his leg is nearly all gone but there is still a large swelling in his arm.The vet also removed a lot of accumulated fluid and at first JenJen looked skinny and dehydrated but after three weeks of food and hydration he has filled out again. So things are looking good:)

That is great news to read, how is he doing now? You really have put in a lot of work and care, I admire your efforts.

Well, I just noticed you live up in L.A. no wonder your iguana was shot. I grew up in Bellflower, so it is no surprise to me. (Please do not take my humor the wrong way)

Well,it turns out that he was not shot but had eaten those objects somewhen. Now his recovery did not go so well and the swelling in his arm is getting worse so we are off to the vet again today.

he is still recovering and has developed gout, propably as a result of the metal in his blood but the sutures are healing and most of his swellings have gone down.
