In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Is a 24w x 24l x 12h cage big enough for a ball python? I plan to invest in some nice cages and don't want to have to buy bigger ones later.

Go with a 36" long, the other dimensions are fine. A female ball can reach 5 feet, a good rule of thumb is a cage with enough room a snake can fold themselves in half and not touch the sides of the cage.

24" x 24" x 12" wouldn't be too bad if you already had the cages and were thinking about buying the ball pythons.

But since it's the other way around I agree with the previous poster than longer might be better.

However, keep in mind that the Iris CB-70 tub but has become something of an industry standard for Ball Pythons. Due to the thick rim and sloping sides of the Iris boxes the CB-70 only has floor space of about 30" x 14", maybe even a bit smaller. Well be conservative and say that 30" x 14" is correct, maybe someone can measure one exactly and let us know.

Regardless, 30" x 14" means:

-Perimeter = 88"

-Diagonal = 33"

-Floor area = 420"

The 24" x 24" you mentioned:

-Perimeter = 96"

-Diagonal = 34"

-Floor area = 576"

So the 24" x 24" cage you mentioned is greater in every important dimension compared to the Iris CB-70 which is so popular among BP keepers. If you're getting a good deal on the cages I don't think it's a bad choice.

Also, along the lines of the what the first poster wrote, a 5" BP could still fold itself in half and not touch the sides in a 24" x 24" cage since the diagonal is 34".

Makes sense. Man, you had to break out the ole pythagorean theorem for that one. I really like the boaphile cages and the 421T (48 x 24 with a divider) seemed the most economical one to go with but if you guys agree that I need to get a different size then I guess I will just bite the bullet and pay the extra cash.

I think this really boils down to your peace of mind. I only wanted to point out that a 24" x 24" cage is actually bigger than a 30" x 14" tub, which is what pretty much all the larger breeders use for their BP's.

Now that I know the situation better, I personally like the idea of the 4' cages split in half. For the occasional huge specimen, give them the entire cage. For the more typical BP, especially the one who goes off feed if given too much room, divide a cage in half and give them one side.

The only caveat being that the Boaphile cage you mentioned might be less than 24" x 24". One complaint I have heard of boaphiles is that the cages are not as deep as advertised. Maybe that was older models, I don't know. Just look into it before spending the money.

You have been a great help and have made some good points. I will verify the dimensions of the Boaphile cage before I purchase it (if I can ever get in touch with them).

Thanks guys for the the input!

I may just have to look at other cages since boaphile doesn't return e-mails. Too bad, they look so nice but customer service is more important.
