In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I had to share with my friends an event yesterday!

I received a contract in the mail. When I sign it and send it in, and my manuscript in, I am that close to becoming a published author! Oh wow, it feels so good.

I'm not exactly unpublished of course... let's see... some of my published credits:

Back in the early 1990's I was approached and asked to submit some art to a literary magazine. I submitted a poem too. The poem was kicked out, the art was accepted.

In the same time frame, there was a computer magazine that solicited an article for me, so I did some "reviews" of some software and was published there...

In college I created and self-published a 100-page study guide for a graduate level statistics course. For five years or so the book was used as supplementary materail for a class at the college. (received approximately $600 in royalties whoo-hoo!)

More recently I've written for small newsletters about mice and about centaurs.

I even have an article written about my art by a european magazine.

But NEVER have I actually been given a contract full of all kinds of legaleeze and with future publishing opportunities with the understanding that I might get future opportunities.

I even read the whole thing contract... only one paragraph baffled me using the word "assigned" a bunch of time.

In any case, I just had to share with my friends this very special day I had yesterday. I may never get my fiction published, but the non-fiction stuff seems to be "happening".

Yay Sasheena!!! You rock!!!!! I think that this is wonderful news......

Oops....Congrats, Sasheena!!!

Fingers ahve a mind of their own some days.

Very cool. What's it about and when can we see it?

Make sure one of those legal parasites, what do you call them..... oh yeah, a lawyer, looks it over to protect yourself.

it's a textbook designed to help students pass the standardized math exit exams in the state of Arizona... my part is writing a 100-question test, and including an explanation of how to solve each problem.

:)

I've actually written an 800-page textbook on the same subject, but that isn't published. I just use it with my own students in the class I created for my at-risk junior and senior students.

Here's a screen shot of a piece of it. :)

Congratulations Sasheena. I needed that when I was in school. I still can't figure out how x or y can equal anything! My checkbook is all the proof anyone needs that I nearly flunked math.

Gotta love that edit button, eh lucille?

What you say is true. To a point. Usually that point has a monetary figure attached to it.

Let me hijack this thread and I promise I'll say no more about it here.

There are some good lawyers out there. I actually know two I can think of off the top of my head.

There are some scumsucking parasites masquarading(?) as legal representatives. This is NOT my opinion but a well known fact. In fact, were there 80% fewer liars, er lawyers, out there the world would be a better place.

I reckon if you'd like to continue this particular avenue of discourse y'all better fire up one of them there new threads like you do so well.

I still stand behind my previous advice, to bring it home and back on thread, er track, that you, Sasheena, get the contract checked by a good lawyer.

Hey Sasheena, when my kids need help with their math and I can't help, which is about 90% of the time now, can they call you? LOL

Well I am pretty well versed in legaleeze myself and did read through the entire contract. If I didn't understand what a paragraph was saying, I would re-read it. Took me the better part of an hour to get through the three-page contract properly. To me it seems as though it is a "standard" contract for a royalty-free publication, that if I use plagiarized work, they'll blame me, if they want to sell it they can, and I can't produce a competing work and sell it, which is fine with me also. I had one paragraph I didn't understand on the first read through and which I understood well the second time around.

The saddest part of everything involving the arrival of the contract is that my "parenting crisis" reached a Mt. Vesuvius critical mass point when I should have been celebrating and enjoying my new success. So it's been a bit sad that my "moment of triumph" was overshadowed.

I feel confident enough of my own read-through of the contract to sign it. The measly $400 that I'll get for the job doesn't make it worth hiring someone to give it a read through.

I sent a small sample of my work to the publishers today (they hadn't even seen ANY of my work when they sent me the contract!) and they were very excited about what they saw. I'm pretty happy myself. I figure I'll get the work in to them two to four weeks early.

And I believe that in the end it's the beginning of what may end up being a very good professional relationship.

Well if your kids need math help, you're welcome to create a "MATH" thread where they'll post their questions and I'll answer to the best of my ability. :)

I just GOTTA share. :)

Today, finally, I received a check for $400 for my writing. I said to my husband, "I'm not sure that I've ever been paid nearly this much for my writing," and then I thought about it, and realized that I've probably never been paid ANYTHING for my writing, period. :)

The neatest thing is that the publishing company has also asked me to be one of their editors of the text. (I told them I could not do this until I had received payment for my first work) and I believe they will have me working on a few other items as well.

While things aren't perfect in my universe, I truly don't recall being quite so consistently blessed.

School (with the kids and all) starts tomorrow. I'm feeling very very peaceful about my life and about the things I do on a regular basis. I had to share my happiness and good fortune with those who care. :)

I must confess.... (upon re-reading my post)

Half the feeling of peace... is the Vicodin I needed after the dentist today. :) Must be honest.

But the other half of the peace, that's from the good things in my life.

Nothing like a big ol check for your writing to make you feel good!

Congratulations, and keep going, blessings will abound. Seems the happier you are that things just seem to run more smoothly. Or maybe you are happy because things
are running smoothly. hhhhmmmmm ??? oh well we never know.
