    =====================

    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
    Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

I was out shopping today, or I should say taking my son shopping to spend his allowance and we stopped in a Pet Suplies Plus, to pick up the new Reptiles mag. Usually I won't even look at their animals because it just makes me sad. However I had not been in this one before and I noticed from afar that their vivs looked real nice. Actually every cage, tank, etc. was spotless. I happend to see a Crested Gecko sign, and asked to see it, since he was hiding in some foilage (note: I have never ever seen a crested in a pet store before). The guy explained to me that they never get them in, but he was a special request from a customer that wanted one and she has yet to come get him after two weeks. She was called and told what day he would be in and she said she would pick him up that day. However since she has not come to get him that they had to scramble to figure out how to take care of him. They were worried that he wouldn't make it cause they know their care sheets are not always correct. (He corrects them one at a time when some one buys so corprate doesn't catch him) He also told me his manager know nothing about reptiles but allows him to take care of them the way they need to be, and not the way corporate want them to. I was so tempted to buy this little guy. It was the first time I had ever handled one and I couldn't believe how soft it felt to the touch. He was real sweet and tame and looked very healthy as did all their reptiles and other animals. Every animal they had was housed properly, where all nice and fat or proportionate. I'm going to read up on cresties and maybe go back and get him. I'm not sure how different their care is from Leos, but my vet keeps them and I'm sure he'll be happy when I bring him in.

Oh and before I forget....their Leos looked GREAT! All had nice fat tails, NOT ON SAND or loose substrate, no crickets hopping around to bother them, plenty of hides, and a moist hide! I'm sure I will go there from now on when I need anything.

Well, I'm off to find care sheets and do some research on this little guy. If anyone has pointers please let me know. The only things I know about cresteds is they don't close their eyes, they can climb on the side of their viv, they don't eat the same things as a Leo, but I don't know what, and they are just adorable.

Very cool :) I don't suppose that happened to be in St. Clairesville?... I happened to stop into the one there during my trip back here from jersey after winter break and was pretty pleased with them...it wasn't perfect but scores better than what I've seen most pet stores and everything looked healthy (and the leos were not on sand that I remember....).

just a note...I have seen cresties in pet stores....I have seen them at petco...and there is a non-chain store here that usually has them. I honestly wouldn't have ever thought it was very unusual to see them...lol

Westlake, Ohio. If I hadn't know this place was there for a few years, I would have sworn they just opened the place. It was that clean! It's as clean as my vets office, and his place is cleaner than a human hospital.

I was shocked!

I'm still looking for info on the crested, not too much info yet. Not giving up! I wan't to know as much as I can before I go back and pick this guy up. I'll have to post pics when I do. He's just sooo cute and sweet.

LOL...I was right! They have a prehensile tail. When I was holding the little guy he kept wrapping it around my finger.

HAHA there is a pet supply plus in my neck of the woods too. AND guess what their herps are in great condition too, i have gotten three leos from there and i just got a crested gecko there too! LOL what a coincidence. The guy who works with the reptiles knows the animals and their needs, he's a pretty cool guy he even managed to get me some discounts on some supplies :hehe: .

As far a cresties go you just need a tall tank with lots of foliage. Feed em crickets and fruit babyfood like banana, apricot, pear, etc. You could use crested gecko diet too, i seem to have trouble getting the mixture right so i just add it to the baby food. Keep maximum temperature below or at 80, etc, etc, im sure your reading enough of this stuff already lol. Have fun hope you can get him before someone else does.

I wish the other one that was closer to me was as clean as this one I found the crested at. It's past 5pm here so I'm sure they are closed. Will have to go back in the am to get him. :)

I found most of the information I need on these guys. They seem easier than a Leo to take care of. Except for misting the whole viv up to twice a day. The only questions I still have is there any fruit baby food they shouldn't have? And how much how often? This guy is about 4" long. Still a little one.

Cresties are fun. I bring them into my work time to time and I always let the kids play with them. It's amazing how it's one of the more mellow arboreal species of gecko that doesn't crave blood (like some species) :)

Cresties are so cute. They're like the little babies of the gecko world. :) I have a Pet Supplies Plus around the corner from me. They don't sell animals though. They have very cheap aquariums there, and you can place your orders online then go to the store and pick it up. It's convienient. Although I learned my lesson about getting crickets and such from them. I went in there over the summer because my bulk order of feeders got delayed and I needed emergency crix. The lady at the cash register was giving me a huge problem because I just wanted to get like 50 crix. She kept telling me leopard geckos ate baby food not bugs. It was an interesting conversation none the less.

Cresteds are awesome. And, I know what you mean about them being soft to the touch, they are like velvet. They are pretty easy to take care of. I have a care sheet on my site that you can read.

I feed them about 4-5 times a week. 1 day I put in fruit baby food mixed with Crested Gecko Diet and calcium (they like the sweet ones, like Pears, Plums, mixed fruit, etc.), then the next day I put in mealies with calcium, I don't feed them the third day, but the day after that I feed them baby food again, then the next day mealworms, then skip a day, etc, etc.

I mist their enclosure once a night. You have to make sure to let the cage fully dry out every day before misting them again so mold doesn't grow in the cage.

As for decorations, I keep a few hanging plants, a piece of wood to climb on, and a few caves on the floor (Yes, they do hide in them occasionally), a water bowl, and a humid lay box for my gravid females.

Let me know if you have any more questions!

LOL....I couldn't believe a reptile could feel like that. It was so soft and almost fuzzy in a very short fuzzy way! And they look like they would be hard and stiff. I love the way it held on to my finger and wrapped it's tail around me.

Do they only vocalize during breeding? Do they talk without another one in the viv?

The only time I have ever heard them was during breeding, they sound so funny!!!!

I got Him/Her!!!!

OMG, I'm not even sure if I should tell you what they charged me for him/her. I've never ever paid this amount for a gecko! LOL Ready for this...... $12.99. They were so happy that someone finally wanted him that they practically gave him to me. Not that they didn't like him. Like I said they never carry cresteds and they were having a hard time getting him to eat the crested food, only small crickets. Since he's my first he's going to be spoiled rotten! Hee Hee Hee

Well here he/she is. I'm not sure how to tell the morphs yet, but I do see some Dalmatian spots. This is right after taking him out of the box, and seems to be fired up. He was a pale cream color when he went into the box, couldn't see much of a pattern down the back, but now you can.
