    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Blandings turtle hibernation please help!!!

My friend was up in Michigan a little over a month ago and he found a blandings turtle on the side of the road and he took it, now hes in jail so his girlfriend gave me the turtle, I did my research on them first he should of never took her cause there illegal to take and it says they need to hibernate I had to bring her in from her pool outside cause its getting cold here in TN at night now I need to know how to hibernate her so she don't die or get sick I red they need to hibernate for good heath, I don't the poor thing to die shes a big female around 9-10in, I have some experience with turtles I have several redfoots and yellow bellys and loggerheads, and other reptiles. Does anyone have any suggestions? Theres not too much info online about there hibernation. Thanks
 
I would suggest not trying to hibernate it if you dont know what you're doing... You have a way greater chance of actually killing the turtle... It doesnt have to hibernate and it will be fine if it doesnt... Plenty of turtles dont hibernate and are in good health
 
If I didn't hibernate it could I still take it up north in spring and release it, I wish I could of do it know but its too cold and I don't have the time to make a trip anywhere now. I just want what is best for her, my friend was dumb for taking the turtle but im sure he didn't know what it was which makes him more stupid. Thanks for any help or suggestions.
 
Yea taking it back and releasing it would be a really good idea... I still wouldn't hibernate it.. No reason in risking killing it if it's not done correctly.
 
I have to wait till next spring and take it to IL, or IN is the closest states here, my girlfriends mad that I have to go to another state to just release it but I have to do it, she said I should of never sad yes to my friends gf but she was going to release here in TN and I knew he got it in MI and the only turtle they have there is the box turtle. I figured I was doing the right thing and still think I made the right choice cause I don't think she would of survived here or been able to find a mate. I think ill start looking up lic. recuses that would take her and I could just ship here there instead of driving and waiting till next spring cause im only worried about the welfare of the poor turtle. Im not too happy with my friend for taking her from her home and not even knowing what kind of turtle it even was. The only turtle I ever got in the wild was a snapper that was struck by a car and I took care of it for a few weeks then found a safe spot to release him. I just wonder if the recuses would take it back into the wild once its warm enough ill have to see that's what I hope for them to do.
