In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Hey guys/gals,

So last year, the 12'-13' season, I bred my big normal girl to a butter male. OCT-MAR - pairing. No ovulation, no eggs, nothing.

November 2013 - I start paring her to a dark, granitey, captive hatch dinker type male, a virgin. I witness NO LOCKS. :ack2:

Now, as of today, the big normal female is super 'glowy'. I decide to palpate her, and wham! I feel 7 or 8 big ol' follicles.

Now the big question.... What do i do next? Since I have seen no locks from the dinker, ever... Do i stick another male in with her that is a sure thing?

I'm afraid that if I don't, she will either give me butters (not the worst thing in the world) or throw slugs w/ no viable sperm.

What would you do??? :shrug01:

I would pair her with the proven male for a week or so then rotate him out with your dinker. I have a female Mojave paired with a pastel lesser and the first 4 or 5 times i introduced the pastel lesser with her she wanted nothing to do with him but this last time they locked. so i'd keep pairing her with both males. rotating them out every week or so.

Thanks Daniel. I guess my concern is that I'm dealing with a potential dinker clutch here (unless of course he never actually locked with her). I don't have the butter male anymore, so if I put a proven male in with her, then I'm dealing with three potential sires.

What other males do you have available? Whenever I have to back an inexperienced male up with another male, I try to use a backup that is really obvious. A super would be ideal...

yeah, a super would be the best! The only proven males I have at the moment are a pastel het clown and mojave het caramel. I think I will will just try and back her up with the mojave and hope for no slugs....

I'd pair her once with the mojave, and then see if a few days later she'll lock with the dinker. Then I'd only pair the dinker to her until ovy.

I guess, though, that it's up to your goals. Sometimes it's not that big of deal to not produce eggs if the pairing isn't going to result in anything you'd want. If you're wanting to make 50% poss. het carmels, grow them up, and then try to prove them, then use the mojo. That's a 3-ish year project. Not my cup of tea with hets that are somewhat readily available. I'd rather buy or trade for 100% het females and grow them...

If I had a dinker that I really want to prove, I'd rather miss on a clutch than mix in other males to put all that guess work into it..

Good luck!
