    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

It has been some time since I started a thread on this forum, so I thought I would bring up a discussion I had with someone recently. The subject: morphs...burm morphs, in particular. The conversation was triggered by an ad for: double het for green/labyrinths (I believe it was one of those BE THE FIRST type ads). Now, we are dealing with two different recessive traits (hence the double het)...both of which deal with pattern aberrancies. But, since the green burm is considered patternless, can these two anomalies exist in the same animal (what does a patternless pattern look like)? If so, will they bear enough resemblance to the parenting morphs to bear the name green labyrinth. Consider this now open to discussion.
 
That's food for thought bringing only new questions. Can one of these recessive genes be more dominant over the other? I would expect that patternless would mostly cancel out any patterning from another recessive trait such as labyrinth or granite. I think some faint pattern could show through. I don't have enough experience working with the involved genetics to give a solid opinion. I'm interested to see what others bring to this table.
 
On the topic of one being dominant over the other, Jim Mason of Bebo's Burms produced green granites. While the patternless gene did cover up the granite gene quite a bit, it did not completely wipe it out. Personally i like the green granites better than the regular granites, so i am curious to see how the green/labryinths turn out.

I have no doubts that one could breed an albino granite and a green to produce hets...it's just a matter of what impact the green (patternless) trait will have on the granite. Apparently, according to Jamie's post, it has been done - admittedly, I didn't look into that combination before starting this thread...I only searched for green labyrinths

I wasnt trying to say nothin there.
 
Apparently a labyrinth bred to a green makes what one person is calling a leopard Burmese. It's a normal looking snake with a reduced pattern. Really neat looking.

hmmm - I thought Bob Clark had produced "leopard" burms back in the mid-90s (or maybe he just had one he was calling that). I guess my thought was that both of these forms (green & labyrinth) have been around long enough that whatever came of the pairing should be commonplace by now
 
All of these snakes people are calling leopard burms are just double hets, at best. No one has bred a true double homozygous animal yet, they are just double hets with reduced sized dorsal spots and a little bit of lateral striping. Leopard is just some name someone branded on them.

Which argues that the "green labyrinth" is not the same as a "leopard" burm.
For my part, I still wonder why people are just "discovering" this combination now...It's not as if the parent phases haven't been around for enough time to have produced several generations of this combo. I would have expected Bob Clark to have tried this a decade ago. Then again, maybe he did...and nothing happened. Guess I'll never know (cuz I'm not gonna bother to try contacting him)
