    =====================

    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
    Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

I've been interested and read about this for a while and was wondering if you guys could answer a few questions and follow up with some advice.

1. I dont have a lot of cash to start with and will be buying snakes here and there for 100-200. i would like some ideas on some good starter snakes to breed to get the hang of it.

2.Also a normal thats het for green ghost, what can I do with that? I mean besides breed it to another normal het for green ghost.

So if I have pastel het for ghost and bred it to a spider het for ghost, I may end up with a ghost bumble bee?

Anyway, I have tanks, a few snakes, just one morph, and a lot of repti care equipment. can you give some advice to a guy just starting out.
thank you

If you look around on here you can usually find pairs of patels or hets for close to $200. It's really up to you on what you want but those seem to be the cheapest and most readily available.
You could breed that normal het ghost to another normal and save all of the opposite sexed progeny to breed back to the parent. Hopefully one will be a het and you'll produce a ghost. That's cheaper than buying another het, but takes longer.
I'm not sure about the ghost Bees but you can always hope! Someone else, with more experience, will have to answer that one.

I started with a couple normals and a pastel and it cost me about $275 for them. Good Luck, hope this helps.

yes you could make humble bees. also in regards to the ghosts not all strains of ghosts are compatible from my understanding and why you would want to breed say an orange ghost to say a green ghost is a waist in my opinion the orange is much nicer looking and would be ruined by breeding to the green,imo. you can get orange ghosts fairly cheap now so there would be no need to start with a het visuals i have seen for around $150 to $250. i personally would spend the money on the single gene codoms first better bang for yur buck. and do not be taken in to by males every time you see them get as many females as you can they are usually harder to find and take longer to raise to breeding size. i look at it as males are a dime a dozen look in classifieds they are everywhere start raising some females then you can be selective on the males you get. good luck

:iagree:

Couldnt have said it better.

Before you jump into this to start breeding, make sure you understand the costs and responsibilities that go along with it. You're going to need decent equipment, room to set-up everything with consistent temps, another room to quarantine new purchases (quarantine is a MUST!!!), and a constant supply of rats.

As mentioned, buy some females first. They cannot breed until a MINIMUM of 18 months, but it's better to let them get 2-3 years before the first attempt. Males can go as early as 6 months, if up to size. I've heard of some male going earlier, but that's rare. Could easily take 1-2 years or more. Buy females now and males next year. By then, the male you want will be even cheaper (values are going down).

When you're nearing the time to actually start the breeding process, you're going to have to have an incubator ready to go and a good baby rack. Plan to keep the babies for at least a year. That's not because you don't want to sell them any sooner, but because (especially for someone without a breeding reputation) there's a chance that they will not sell.

As far as all the morphs and combos, just start doing your research. There are so many variations that it will take you some time to figure out the differences. For example, the Het Green Ghost that you mentioned is Amir's line of the Het Red Axanthic, thus being a co-dom gene, not a recessive. It's not really a Ghost at all.

Good luck with your projects, but just enjoy the animals for now. It'll make the breeding part that much more fun!!!

I think your thinking of a green pastel Matt, there is a recessive green ghost/hypo line too ;)

DOE!!! See what I mean about doing research?? There's so many variations, combos and just new morphs still being found in Africa that I still get confused!! :D

The Green Pastel is exactly what I was actually referring to as Amir's line of Het Red; however, the Green Ghost is still not compatible with the Orange Ghost/Hypo.

As Craig and Matt has already said, buy your females first and grow em up a bit, then go after the males.
