• Responding to email notices you receive.
    **************************************************
In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

A manner in which to make managing the classified ads easier to work with has been brought up here in the past.

My programmer just finished up a classified ads control panel.

You can access this through your USER CP. The link is just below the FaunaClassifieds logo in the upper left hand corner of the screen. When you go to your user control panel, you will see a screen listing several sections, one of which is the CLASSIFIEDS CONTROL PANEL. When you click on this, you will be presented with a listing of ALL ads you have posted in the classifieds sections.

From there, you can view the individual ads via clickable links. You also have several options you can do with each of the ads:

BUMP - This bumps the ad up to the top of the classified section it is posted in. This saves you the trouble of having to cut and paste from the old ad to a new one, then delete the old ad. Of course, this can be abused, so I will be watching this closely.

DELETE - Deletes the ad. Makes it easier to clean up all those old ads that may no longer be valid.

LOCK - This locks the thread to replies. People wanting to do their business outside of the classified forums themselves can utilize this option to keep people from replying to their ads via replies within the forums.

Anyway, check it out and let me know what you think about it.

I hope this helps you all to more easily use the classifieds section here

Great job! I went in saw all those embarrasingly old advertisements I had posted, and was able to delete them. :) Now when it's time to post things in three or four months, I'll be able to keep better track of them. Great! :)

OHHHHHHHHHH ricch i really like those options and shoot i check and there were some ads i forgot about and delted em but i found some complications... once you "lock" a ad you can not unlock it and this "locking" also includes editing the ad. i went and locked some of my ads and then went back to edit one because sale is pending and it said i couldnt because the ad is closed and im assuming that means its "locked"
any suggestions?

Let me run this by my programmer to see what the options are for dealing with it. In some respects I can see where I may want a locked ad to remain locked, especially if it is one that a moderator has locked to keep someone from editing.

Have you tried removing the lock via the admin options when you are viewing the thread? You may be able to unlock the thread that way.

This is how it currently works

You can lock an ad through the ucer cp ad classified ad panel.
Once you lock it.......... you can delete it through the same panel.

If you need to unlock it. You can unlock it by clicking and viewing your ad and going to the buttom where you see an admin panel. There you can unlock it.

UNFORTUNATELY

There are some ads that have been locked by admins.
The owners of those ads can delete their ads trhough the user cp classified ads panel.

This is something that DEFINATELY needs to be fixed by the programmer.

ok i tried that.

the admin options and this is what it said

***You do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
You do not have permission to access the page that you were trying to. Are you trying to edit someone else's post or trying to access administrative features? Check that you are allowed to perform this action in the Forum Rules.
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

I wish you could "bump" a thread when it is locked, but you can't. Oh well, guess I could always un-lock it, bump it, and then lock it, some extra steps but it would be worth it.

dude once you lock it through your uaser control panel
you are SOL cuz you cant unlock it i tried through admin options and everything

I fixed the problem that was causing you to be unable to unlock your threads.

As far as the problem Ritchie brought up, I suppose that if someone sees an issue in a classified ad here, it will have to be treated the same as any other ad placed on another website somewhere else. Capture the image and paste it into the relevant thread on the BOI. Moderators can make a copy of the thread itself, if necessary, and post it elsewhere outside of the classifieds section where the author will be unable to touch it. If necessary, I can set up a special forum for this purpose.

Locking a thread should be the exception, rather than the rule. Let's face it, people look for ads with replies to them. Check the number of views any thread has gotten in the classifieds section with replies compared to other ads that have no replies to them.

If you want a large number of hits on your ad, well, people that are discussing you ad will simply attract attention. That's just the way it works.

Just be careful you don't heavily abuse that bumping option. If I begin to hear a lot of complaints from people crowded out due to several people continually bumping the same ads, I will have to discontinue this feature. If your product is not selling, maybe you just need to do a better classified ad and not keep throwing the same old one up in front of people thinking they aren't seeing it.

Need I tell anyone you MUST provide photos if you want to get interest? That's the way it works as well.

But without a doubt, the classifieds section will be subject to positive feedback. The more people who post ads there, the more people who will come to see them. The more people seeing the ads, the greater the likelihood that you will snag a buyer. But the sellers have to start the process for this to work. People ARE coming to this site, so YOU have to make the effort to provide the classified ads for them to look over.

And heck, it's for FREE! What more do you want? :)

If you post it ....they will come

800-1000 members log in everyday.

Then there are the HUNDREDS of "guests" who do not bother logging in............and I mean HUNDREDS.

It is now 2:35 am EST
There are currently 40 members and 53 guests on the boards. Most users ever online was 271 on 04-28-2004 at 10:46 PM. <------this part is on line at the same time. But we get over 1000 members and guest looking here everyday. As a matter of fact. There seems to be about the same number of guests (sometimes more) that are logged on as there are members.

So if we get 800-1000 members a day. We probably get over 2000 people logging on. A DAY

Actually, recently we have been averaging between 5,000 and 7,000 unique IP addresses per day on this site. Since AOL and othes will share IP addresses via proxy servers, I think the number of actual unique individuals visiting could be MUCH higher than that figure.

Of course, some of those visitors are actually search engine spiders. This site gets heavily searched for the search engines and is getting a substantial number of people coming here via search engine queries.

And this is just the beginning. Ponder this for a moment: Whenever you read a thread on this site, you are seeing 5 messages at a time displayed on the page. So in effect, the hit counters are logging only one hit for every 5 messages read. Now, take a look at another site that is using a different method of discussion forum viewing where EACH message is on a separate page. The so-called "threaded forum messages display". To read those same 5 messages in a thread would generate 5 hits on the site's hit counter. So in effect, everything else being equal, that other site would be showing 5 times the hits that this site is, even though there could be the same number of viewers reading those messages.

Not only that, but it is obvious that the general discussion forums are severely under utilized here. So where are all of the people going that come to this site? Well, check out the "Who's Online" display every now and again. Most are either here on the BOI or browsing the classifieds sections. And since the unregistered viewers cannot come to the BOI, guess where most of them are spending their time? Yep. In the classifieds.

Throughout April we had between 15 and 36 NEW registered members PER DAY here.

We are bringing the people to this site, folks. It's up to you to give them the stuff to think about buying by putting your merchandise into the classifieds section.

Well, I think I'm doing my part, but what about you?

rich juist to let you know............. just the other day i had a lady contact me about an animal........... she called me from TN and found my ad through your site..................... i advertise on fauna and in fact i have a link to here on my availible page as well as my links page
i sold a seven lot of babies in a day here... and got several other responses. and as soon as i have more anmals availible i plan on buyting up some real estate on here...................... i receiently just my site which is very basic and i have your fauna banner hit thingie on it and shoot im holding my own................. not in the top 50 but not the last 50 either............... and its all trafic mainly from here since... i do not post very much at the other site........... shoot and thats just my POS site..................
i like fauna alot and it works for me so yes you are doing things right,

shoot if just one or two larger scale breeders would post here soley it could make a big change... or some of the larger ones post here exclusevely.................... i kn0ow for some its hard breaking a habbit but probably very well worth it............
i know i only post here justyn as well as a few other using this site exclusevely... just need a few larger name breeders to break the norm hehe....... i dunno just my thoughts

I agree, Robin.

I think some of the larger scale advertisers need to look at the long term picture here.....

Just my opinion of future trends, of course. But the writing appears to be on the wall.

dude once you lock it through your uaser control panel
you are SOL cuz you cant unlock it i tried through admin options and everything

My programmer did this fix the eloquent way. Now in your classified ad management screen, the clickable option to LOCK a thread is a toggle switch. When you LOCK an ad, the link changes to UNLOCK, so you can unlock it back at will.

Enhancement to the enhancement

My programmer just added in the capability for users to directly POST ads from the classified ads control panel display. You simply use the drop down selection list to select the section you want to post your ad into, and you are taken directly there so you can post your new ad.

Try it out and see what you think about it.

WELL???

How is this control panel working for you all?

Anyone even using it?

This is a feedback forum, so GIVE ME SOME FEEDBACK! Please!

Works great. Cleaned up a lot of stuff that was extremely old that I would never had found (but I'm sure someoneelse would have and wanted to know why I still had the ad up if it was sold).

The bump feature works great as well.
