    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

We have decided to use playsand for the substrate in our cages but sand is such a blah color. Are there any dragon-safe ways of dying or coloring the sand to make it any color but grayish-white?? Or are there places that will sell already colored playground sand? Thanks!

I have seen colored playsand for sale in our local WalMart garden area. I don't know if it is safe or anything else about it except I saw it for sale. We have a Super WalMart and they have this fenced area in the parking lot where they have this and trees, shrubs, and all sorts of garden/landscaping supplies available.

I would avoid the colored playsand altoether, unless you know 100% that the dye used is non toxic. Also the dyes in the sand will dye your dragons too. I have seen a couple dragons with blue or purple feet and bellies cause they lived on dyed calci-sand.

What color would you prefer the sand to be? There are a few ways you can do it - but much depends on the color your looking to produce... and how much work/time you're willing to spend.

Mike is right, the coloring will bleed a bit and it may tint your dragons feet and belly. As long as you don't mind...

We were hoping to find some shade of red or yellow or brown. Nothing like purple though! Some staining won't be bad (they'll shed their tinted skin for a fresh version), as long as the effect will not still be there after we change out the sand colors.

hehehe...
Just use kool-aid then! I had a horrible time with kool-aid stains on the kids clothing.

Cherry flavor will do it, it's red - mix 6-8 packs with water only (no sugar) and stain the sand with it. When you mix the 2 together - be sure to wear gloves!
Let the sand sit overnight in the mixture, rinse it well and let it dry out. I'll assume this will work better with the white-ish sand rather than the beige sand...

It should do the job for you - and it's completely non-toxic...
Good luck!
