So... my female crestie has been separated from her male since mid august. I realize that they retain sperm and do continue to lay. She seems to have taken a 2 month personal hiatus and it seems she has decided she wants to lay again. In the past, she would lay her eggs and leave them alone. I added a female to the cage and now she seems to be guarding her nest box (which she seems to have been doing for a few days now on and off). i've never seen her behave like this before.
Should i be concerned about her guarding the box? i want to collect eggs if she has laid them and i'm hoping that by tomorrow morning, she may have decided to take a break from guarding so i can pull them out and incubate them.
any thoughts?
