    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Does this disturb anyone else?

Found this in an ad earlier....

I also have a pair of redtails that have been seen copulating in the past week.The female is about 3-3 1/2 feet and is just awesome.She is from an unknown locale and looks like a pastel she has beautiful peach/pink/salmon colors and a nice looking tail. The male is also of unknown locale and hes has a nice circleback pattern and has nice dark colors.He is about 4 feet and is just as impressive as the female.They are both feeding weekly on small rats and if successfully breed will be sure to produce some beautys.

From what I remember from researching boa breeding a few years back, the female should be at least 6 ft, and a healthy weight, and it's preferred that she's bigger.

Well alot depends upon the locality that the boas are from. Though you are right in your assumption that a 3 1/2 ft. boa would not be of age to breed on average. But some just don't get as big such as the mainland honduran boas where a huge one would be 6ft. So knowing the local and exact subspecies is a definate plus in evaluating this add.
But if the female is under 3 years of age or the male under 2 years it is too soon in my opinion. I personally wouldn't breed any snake, boa or python, at under 3 years. Their bodies are not developed enough to handle the stresses of having babies yet. And with pythons I would wait at least till they are 4 years to breed them.
I know there are alot of people out there who will disagreed with me and say that I am full of ****, but the breeders I know that have been breeding boids for 15, 20 and even 30 years would agree I am sure. Too many people try to rush things and either don't know, see or care what the long term effects of their actions will be on the snakes. ANd I am not saying that the person in this add is doing this either since I don't know any real specifics about the snakes except for their size.
And that is all I have to say about that.

I know some species don't get as large at others, but acting on assumptions of what I have seen of breeders, anyone who just labels them 'red tails' don't really care about the animals, even a BCC or BCI label shows you know something about the animal. Plus most people who have the smaller species what what they're worth, which is usually more than a 'red tail' is worth...

This is of course just me reading between the lines....
 
I saw that ad too and just shook my head. That female is much too small for breeding, unless he is mistaken about the size. It's difficult to ascertain from the picture. Regardless, I don't see the point, especially since he is trying to sell them both.
 
OOPS, I missed the link to the actual add with the pictures. They appear to be BCI's at least and 3.5ft. is way too small for most species of BCI. There are only a few BCI locals that would fit into the 3ft range for breeding catagory. Like some of the island subspecies, of which those don't appear to be.
So on the acclaimed size and viewing the pictures I would have to say the female at least is too young/small to be breeding.
And if you read this Jed, don't get all bent about it. Do some research and you will see that we are right. Truth is truth no matter what the outcome.
