In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

my cousin rescued an adult dumeril recently and it has what looks like flaky
dry scales
it has shed (according to the guy he got it from) three times in one month
can anyone tell me what they thought it might be
thanks
Eric

hard to say without seeing it - was the snake treated topically for mites? what is used to clean the enclosure? How big/old is this snake? - never mind, you said it was an adult...ah - go ahead, that means different things to different people, lol. Describe, if you would, the enclosure, substrate, heating devices, temperatures (warm/cool, hi/low, day/night). Is it eating?

As Harald said - more details will help. It's difficult to diagnose reptilian illnesses (or any other kind for that matter) over the internet without all the information.

One thing is certain however, if this animal has shed three times within a 30 day period, it's very likely that something is irratating it's skin. Boas do not grow that quickly.

Right off the bat, without any other information, I would recommend that you completely clean the animal's enclosure and rinse it repeatedly with water to remove any chemical traces.

Secondly, a nice long soak in tepid water will help to remove any irritants that are still on the animal.

Beyond that, we really need more details.

here you go

well i can only say one thing for certain
when i saw it at the other owners place it was in aspen shavings
finely cut
there definately is a little redness inbetween the scales
so we purchased some repta aid shed ease and and snake oil ,before and after his last shed he applied them both after a long soak and the scales look fine but i just wanted to make sure there was nothing else he could do for him .

unfortunately, that isn't all that much help. You said that you applied that stuff before & after its last shed...which, to me, means that it has shed while in your cousins care. try feeding it & see what happens. Aspen is fine for dums; though, since this is a new acquisition, I would keep it on paper for a while.
