In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Based on the Table of Paid Membership Levels , there are three additional perks for joining Fauna at the Endowment level. They are:

1. Ability to view IP addresses on posts
2. Ability to move and open/close their own threads in discussion forums
3. *FREE* FaunaNet website hosting

Number 3 is obvious, but has anyone else at the Endowment Level been able to utilize 1 and 2?

Thanks,

Thanks,

1. According to the permissions set for the Endowment usergroup, all members in this group SHOULD be able to view IP addresses. If they cannot, then it is either a bug in vBulletin, or the vBulletin developers decided to remove this capability. I have not researched, it so I don't know which, if either, is the case here.

2. I think I fixed this a few minutes ago. The problem is that there are two levels of permissions in vBulletin for usergroups: custom for each forum, and usergroup defaults for any forum NOT using a custom permission set. Unfortunately, I set up the defaults for all options as indicated in the above mentioned table, but because of one reason or another, there were a LOT of custom permissions set all scattered through the forums. This is because there has been some changes as to where some forums reside and some custom permissions were set a while ago. When I change the default permissions, this does NOT override the custom permission sets in any forums they have been set at. So I had to manually go to each forum (I probably missed a few....) and change those permissions to drop the custom ones, and use the default set. Sorry about that. If you see a forum that you believe your permissions are incorrect, please let me know. There are some forums on this site that do have custom permissions depending on the circumstances, so those "perks" do not apply to ALL forums.

Thanks for pointing this out....

Rich,
Once the ability to view IP addresses becomes avalable, do you know where it will be displayed? Will it be right on the post, or via a link to another page?

Thanks,

Well, from what I can see from the admin level, it is visible on the post itself in the left margin of the post underneath the name info for the poster. I just have to put the mouse cursor overtop of an icon that looks like a vertical bar in a red triangle. Then whenever I vew the Currently Active Users display, I see everyone's IP address posted in each line.

If I have time, I'll set up one of my test logons as an Endowment member and take a look around.

Rich,
That must be your "Supreme Master" status that allows that. The red triangle with the vertical bar states "Report Bad Post" when I hover over it.

It's no big deal - don't put off more important work to address it - I was just curious about it. As you can see, it took me a couple of months to even bring it up at all.

By the way, I did find the option for moving threads in the thread tools.

Thanks,

No, it's my "Supreme Dummy" status! It's actually a small icon of a computer that is what is used to show the IP addresses. Duh! :>poke2<:

You can list ip's by viewing the online members list i believe, but its fairly useless that way.... You can only view the ips for members who are currently online. I was under the impression we would be able to view per post, online or offline. That way comparisons and such could be made, etc. etc.

Anywho, those with endowment level can click the link below and see what I mean, Im sure Rich will get around to addressing this in the future :)

Sorry, but no. But I suspect that what you see is what you get. I have the option turned on, and that is all that the system allows me to give to users. If I find out more I will let you know, but right now I have eggs being dropped and that is taking up some of my time. Plus some of the "drama" here in other threads, of course....... Everything takes time, and there is only so much of that to go around.

No problem
The eggs are priority one and yes, the drama level has been a little high lately.

Maybe we need some kind of alert system at the top of the site. Kind of like Defcon 1 only tracking the drama level within the membership.
Whenever we get above Dramacon 3 - everybody has to leave you alone.

hmmm....

Well, I guess I could make it so that people are limited to only 100 words in a post. That would probably cut down some of the extraneous rhetoric, I suppose. Just the facts, mam, ONLY the facts...... :)

Well tonight my Benefactor Membership expires and I am on the fence trying to decide which membership I will subscribe, Benefactor or Endowment. I am curious if the ability to see IP addresses has been resolved. It is one little perk I would find useful.

I've checked the options for viewing IP addresses, and it appears that there are two that are relevant here. In the admin section for posting options, there is an option to display IP addresses to:
  • No one
  • Only admins super mods can view them
  • Display publicly

There is no way to selectively display IP addresses on individual posts filtering this capability via user groups.

The other relevant option relates to specific user group permissions, and there is one to set or disable viewing of IP addresses, but it only works in the Who's Online display. Which means you can only see IP addresses of a member who is currently online at the time. This particular option is set to ON for Endowment Level members.

As far as I can tell, there are no other options for viewin IP addresses that are relevant. So, yes, you can view IP addresses with this level of membership, but it is limited to the display showing current members online at the time you are viewing the Who's Online display.
