In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

FEEDING RECORDS?

I use 4 x 6 index cards. I have a file that is formatted to print on front and back of BLANK index cards. Here are some photos. If anybody is interested in these, send me an e-mail and I will give you the file. [email protected]

We keep feeding records on all hatchlings on 3 X 5 cards. Once first card fills up the ones we are selling get a second card, the hold backs don't get another card they get a name tag that uses a velcro piece to attach to the front of the tub. Depending on the orientation of the name tag we can tell if they ate last week, have refused for one week, have refused for two weeks, have refused longer (then it gets documented in a note book of the last feeding it ate and when it finally takes another meal.)

We generally give the feeding cards with the animal when it sells. If we sell a breeder we normally let its name tag go with it so they know what we used to call it and we can look back through our records based on its name. It is hard keeping track of and coming up with the names for 100 snakes though.

I've always been pitifully uncreative when it came to thinking of names. I named the first three snakes I ever bought 20 years ago (one of which I still have), and after that I decided if it wouldn't come when you called it it didn't really need a name and switched to ID numbers.
You'd be surprised how easily you start to associate something like BP F-02 or HA M-01 with individual snakes.
Breeders got the above numbers, BP meant normal ball for instance, HA was het albino JCP M-02 would be jungle carpet male #2. Hatchlings got an additional couple of digits denoting the year of birth for reference in the future if needed.

Back when I regularly did talks for kids groups, schools etc, they would usually ask what a certain snake's name was. I would explain that it didn't have a name yet and told them to think of a good one. They always liked naming one. I tried to remember what they named them and sometimes succeeded, but I'm sure a few snakes were "named" multiple times.

I really like that idea of an ID card in a spot to indicate when they last ate. I hate record keeping as well, but that sounds like a heck of an idea. Thanks

I created an excel database and print the sheets off. I use to go back and enter the data from the sheets every month but got tired of it. I keep yearly binders that are divided by snake. It's great grabbing an old binder and looking at how I use to do things.

I keep note cards for all the hatchlings and give them to the new owners or staple them to the sheets mentioned above when I decide to hold them back.

We use binders to record feeding, but have slacked off here lately. Just to many snakes these days. I was introduced to the snake keeper app for my iPhone. I've finally got all the snakes entered into it and it keeps track of pretty much everything for from feeding cycles to weight. Seems pretty cool, so far.

I use index cards and Reptilescan on my iphone. Reptilescan is an awesome program all I have to do is scan the code on the bin and the program automatically takes me to that particular animal's info. The info on the snakes can be accessed and edited online at their website and is very detailed with the info you can input regarding any animal.

Nothing like a little blatant advertising in the discussion forums...
What is your affiliation with HerperPro? (If you aren't affiliated with them, then you probably shouldn't have their link in your signature)

Yes "blatant" I decided to start my own thread elsewhere. I'm honestly interested but why pass up an opportunity to get some good back links. I would have just went rampant if I could have added tags to my post.

Reptile Scan is pretty awesome! I have about 60 breeders and use it for them as well as this year i used the breeding end of the program and it self generates the info etc. Slap a couple diff variations of labels to chose from and put it in the bin. It seems to work so far. I have only been using it for about 3 months.

Ha Danny, is there a way to incorporate data from other breeders collections whom have this software with an easy one click or scanning of a bar code so I would not have to individually add all the data by hand. Like if i got an animal from you.
