    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Gaboon Eating Problem

If any of you have experience keeping Gaboons I have three. All of the sudden 1 of them will not eat. It has been a month Any suggestions?
 
Need more info...

I.E....How are they set-up? How long have you had them? CB or WC?
Temps, substrates, and humidity can all be factors. How old are they?
 
They are in a 6' x 4' x 2' cage. Substrate is a black astro turf. Humidity 70- 85% Temp is low 70's at night and around 80 during the day. The two males are 3 to 4' and about 3yrs old. The female is about 2.5' and 2 yrs old. I have had them about 3 months. They were all eating on the same day about every 2 weeks. I have been trying to get the smaller male to eat for about a week now he last ate a medium rat on 03/30/06. The other two I think may be trying to copulate they are chasing each other around the cage at high rate of speed. Well at least for Gaboons. The female moves at the speed of a retic.
 
Yes they are all in the same enclosure. I agree but from some of the things I have read they are exhibiting the behavior I had read about. I just went to check on them and they are stretched out long ways one on top of the other. The non- eating male is by himself.
 
I agree that the female is on the small side for breeding (read: I would not breed her at this size...that does not mean that she is not physically capable).
The humidity seems a bit high to me, but I think that the best solution to your immediate problem is to separate out the nonfeeding male. It is not uncommon for a "nondominant" male to get all out of sorts...including going off feed. Since the other male seems to be quite actively courting the female (regardless of how receptive she may be), it is quite possible that this one got put in his place, so to speak. If they are fed every other week, then he has only missed 2 feedings...maybe 3 if you gave an extra try.
*Of course, the simplest and most obvious thought is that he went into a shed cycle before his scheduled feed 2 weeks ago...and as soon as he sheds he'll get back to himself.

to Harolds reply, keeping them together is very risky business from a safety issue and husbandry.
 
Yes I am in the process of building more cages. I have 14 snakes. I am working on it. As far as the shed goes he just shed not too long ago. And he will eat while in shed. So maybe I will seperate him from the others and see if that helps.
