It's my opinion that the best way to gauge a business is how they handle the problem orders - Jason @ Geckophoria gets a huge thumbs up for this one.
First week of July I ordered a group of Stenodactylus petrii from Geckophoria. I knew these would be WC fresh imports, and honestly expected to have a few bumps in the road because of the rarity (in the trade) of these geckos. We came together on a shipping date and I got things ready on this end for them.
Over the weekend I heard from Jason that he had some problems with ants and wasn't able to fill my order with healthy lizards. He said he thought he could get replacements the following week. Since it's hard to find anyone selling these, I of course said no problem, let's wait and see.
The replacements turned out to be the wrong species, so Jason offered some animals from his personal collection. To me, having someone working on getting CB geckos of this species was more important than my order, so I didn't want to raid his breeding colony. We came to an agreement for a pair of the Stenodactylus petrii from his personal stock, and a pair of Coleonyx mitratus in place of my original order. Once again, we set up a shipping date.
The evening he was to ship, Jason contacted me that his usual Fed Ex location refused his package. He was in full compliance of the Lacey Act, species names written on the box and full disclosure of the contents. With no copy of his Fed Ex waiver the Fed Ex employee was unable to verify he was allowed to ship reptiles.
We decided to wait until the next week rather than ship late in the week. On Monday 8/4/08 the animals were shipped. Tuesday at 5 PM they had still not arrived. I contacted Fed Ex as the tracking info was not updated. I was informed the package was not yet received at the hub in TN. The Fed Ex staffer sent word to the TN hub to contact me and place a special handling on the box. They did neither. (New topic Fed Ex - bad guy?). Of course I contacted Jason, he told me to keep him abreast of what happened on my end.
The package came today. Perfectly boxed, insulated, cold pack, etc. IMO perfect packing. Three of the four geckos look 100% perfect, with the fourth looking a little distressed, but overall in good shape. IMO the expert packing saved her life.
I'm now the proud owner of Fat, healthy, and possibly gravid geckos when I ordered skinny stressed fresh imports. I couldn't be happier.
At each instance of bad luck, Jason proved he is willing to go the extra mile until the customer is satisfied. I'll certainly be ordering from him again, and would recommend him to anyone looking for less than common geckos.
Thanks again Jason
