    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. I am an idiot, for one I reached into a 5 1/2 ft females cage without looking (I don't like to squat) and then I saved these images over all the pics I took of the babies this morning so I no longer have those. I will take more pics of them tomorrow. I paid well for my first mistake. She got the back of my hand nicely and popped a few veins. It swelled pretty good. I will take more pics once it changes colors.

You didnt say..what were you putting your hand in there for? To handle her/routine cleaning/feeding?
 
I have bad knees and don't like to squat. Her cage is elevated about a foot off of the floor. I bent down to see where she was in her cage so I could take her out for pictures, then just bent down and reached in her cage without being able to see. I felt her grab me and that was it. I pulled her out for pics direclty after I took care of the bite and she was fine. No hard feelings on her part.

I see some sore tendons in your future James! I am sure that while not everyone will admit to it like you have, there are a lot of people who have been bitten under similar circumstances. I had my 7 1/2 foot female pastel give me a similar bite to yours. I was feeding and she had her head right next to and facing the glass in her vision cage. Instead of sliding the other door open and using a snake hook to nudge her head away from the door, I just slid the door open in front of her face and she nailed me. She is the sweetest thing once I am holding her, not one aggressive bone in her body while I am holding her, it just that transition from inside the cage to outside the cage that can be tricky.

For all you non believers out there, a snake hook is a wonderful tool and I recommend its use at all times when removing your boa from its cage, especially when dealing with adults. I have never had a bite just from handling my boas. It has always been a SFE(stupid feeding error) on my part that has caused me to bleed. You live and learn. Hopefully anyone reading this thread who does not fully respect a boas feeding instinct will learn from our mistakes instead of learning the hard way. While the hard way provides a nice bite mark to show off to your family and friends, using a snake hook and noting your boa's posture and position while taking it out of its cage will no doubt greatly decrease your chances of being bitten.

I was feeding one of my smaller girls about 4' last Sunday, I have alot to feed so I do not wash my hands in between(ya I know) she came out and bit my wrist the under side(where people slit there wrists) well she hit a vein and it swelled instantly the vein momentarily backed up and bled out a bit, it looked like I had a black golf ball under my skin, wish I took pics, a week later and it is still all bruised. My fingers swelled up as well and it took a couple of days to get full movement back in my wrist. Dr. said she actually damaged the vein but all should be ok once completely healed. This has been the worst so far for me but you never know. Shanell.
 
My worst bite was 2 years ago from my 7 foot female. I had such a large collection that my rodents were delivered to my house, when the rat lady showed up, my kids could smell them. I had rabbits for the big girls, one of which was in blue, soaking her water tub, I started to slide her cage door opened, turned and asked Lynn to "hand me my hook" and as the words left my lips she tagged me hard on the top off my right hand. I had to wrap a towel around it to stop the bleeding. The rodent girl stood there with her jaw dropped watching me as I continued working. I hooked out the girl that bit me and patted her side while telling her that it was okay. I tubbed her and she enjoyed her bunny........
 
I believe I pulled 3 or 4 teeth out of my hand from this.
She was a rescue type of boa, and I reached in to grab the water container without even thinking. And she tagged me.
Guess that was her way of saying she loves me. :rofl: :rofl:

OUCH, thats actually kinda funny. because last night i went to take out my female suriname about 4' and she bit me on my middle and ring fingers for no reason. and after i stopped the bleeding she was fine too. what kind of snake was she? take care.
 
No thats ok. Actually that was the first time i have been bit by anythng in over a year probly. She was just in a pissy mood i guess, she has never struck or anything since i have owned her.
 
The one that got me was a stripe line female het for albino. Even though they have nasty reputations, normally she is well behaved. I guess she just didn't like my intrusion into her cage. I am a firm believer that a snakes enclosure is their domain, I just get to clean it.

JCCS, i agree 100% about a snakes enclosure is their domain. I think my 4' female belknap suri tagged me. because i went to get her out to quickly but, she has never tried to bite at all since i have owned her. but she's chilled out now.

My big girl got me many times in her first 2 years. Seems if it moved, it was FOOD. LOL
She grew out of it, but last year, she tagged Me a good one in the web of the hand, between the thumb and finger. Interesting though, when they taste food, they can really put some pressure on. I felt the difference from the initial bite, to when she thought it was food, and really clamped down.
Yeah, another SFE. (sort of) I reached in to change her water bowl after tube feeding a dove in My care. I didn't wash, and i got what was coming to Me for not doing what I KNOW I am supposed to. LOL

How's it feeling after a few days?

Actually nothing ever came of it really, slightly discolored and a bit sore, but nowhere near as bad as I expected from previous experience. I was going to get a picture of it after a couple of days but it wasn't enough of a difference to capture on film.

I'm about to get a new yearling BC male and I hear he is a little "feisty". he's been raised in a shoebox type container of the right size for him. but apparently not handled alot. would have to restrain him to hold him I was told. well I plan to put him into a 4" boaphile cage w/ newspaper for bedding, a hide and water tub. I plan to let him settle in for a week. then how do I acclimate him to handling? suggestions? What is a "safe" routine of handling so he gets tame but is not overly stressed? Should I wear gloves? My yearling female from last year is as tame as she can be- partly just the way she is. I handle her once a week or so to keep her tame and feed her outside her cage in a tupperware container. She has only been "hyperactive" one time when I got her out of her cage and then quickly settled down.

First of all newspapper is ok, but boas for some reason do a lot better with a more natural bedding IMO, like keepers choice is truly AWSOME. As far as calming him down just gentle handling everyday. thats what i do with all of my snippy baby BCC. i hope this helps you.
