Hopping In
You ALL actually make a point. One of those kinds that are endlessly debateable. There are many different types of owners, and levels of emotional attachment, and animal preferences. I LOVE Snakes, my Fiancee Jeff Rye Loves his Lizards. We have a Betta named Bubbles, a Corn Snake named Jakers, a Leopard Gecko named Gex, a Dwarf Frog named Kermit, or Kremit, and an Anole now named Piccolo! We WANT a Ball Python, me oh so badly! Also a Chameleon, a House Gecko, more Leopard Geckos, and more Corn Snakes! Some people set up their tanks to be Paradise, some people buy the animal and then get them set up as quick as possible, or not, and some don't even care! I don't know you, any of you, and I don't know what kind you are. We also have to take care of US! I think some people forget to do that, and probably dig into their Grocery money for the Pets! I have! I bought Jake as cheaply as possible. He was in a Critter Keeper when I bought him! I thought that was bad, but being a Baby it wasn't actually that bad. He had no heat, and still just gets his heating pad I bought for him later.
In Ohio its summer, and the apartment is high 70's in the day, and low 70's at night. I only turn the heating pad on low, when I'm home, only after he eats. He has two hides, a water bowl he uses as a hide, and Jungle mix for substrate that I have never had a problem with. Hes getting moved to aspen shavings though, its cheaper. I haven't had ANY problems with eating, or shedding yet. (Cross my fingers.) I had every intention on making his home mucho better when I got him. I made many sacrafices! He is in a ten gallon now, and doing great. As far as I know I can't talk to him.
You know we could all be wrong! Maybe nobody should even have "pets." Maybe they should be free and happy! Like many others I assume though, I needed Jake more than he needed me. They don't need us in the wild. My Jakers actually saved me from a nervous breakdown, and gave me stuff to do, and something to baby. I would give any of my animals up though for my Fiancee. I feed him first. We fit a lot of our animals into our budget. Certain ones I will not buy though without there set up already being set. Like the Python I want or the Chameleon, anything expensive. Everythings money these days. How much, investments. Everybody has had animal accidents, EVERYBODY, and you won't catch one person talk about it, or the deformed ones from breeding, or even the fact that they bought their pet cheap, and then upgraded them right within a month. People probably just feel bad. I felt bad about Jake, and Gex. They are very durable survivors though. They don't need to babied.
Being a worry wart can get you into trouble to. An worrying sucks to, their are physical illnesses involved in that if you over worry yourself, like I have. The thermometers. I only have one placed right in the middle. The red stick is for hot temps, and the blue for cool. $2 something dollars. Works for now. As for Fauna I would stay! This place really is great. There are some major experts on here, major breeders, and sellers. It everything in one. Most of the advice is right on. I know how you feel. I am sensitive to. I have had some posts I didn't like, but I read them carefully, went and did my own research, and I never respond back sorely. Just ignore people if you don't like what they have to say. There are a ton of nice people here to get to know, and some day you might be the expert. Also, like I said watch where the advice comes from. Do some of your own google searchin. Some of these topics are also debatable, like using sand for a Gecko, papertowels, heating pads, vitamins. It just depends, use your best judgement. The really good people to get advice from are Cat_72,
hhmoore,Norsmis,TripleMoonsExoticGoldenGateGeckos, and the Forum Moderators are great! So please keep posting.
