In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Help please!

Okay, so I recently had a clutch of four eggs on April 22nd. I always candle my eggs to make sure they have veins before incubating and at the time all of them did. Although there was one in the middle/bottom that had only a few veins, but I decided to give it a chance and see what happens. Well, I guess I shouldn't have because now the egg is dead and is molding. Green goo is coming out from the top and now the problem is that it's attached to my other eggs. I tried to pull them apart but they are way too stuck together. What should I do? I heard that the mold can affect the other eggs and I don't want to lose my clutch. Please help :(

Leave it.
If you are using vermiculite, just cover it up. If the healthy eggs don't get wet, you shouldn't have an issue with them molding from the bad egg. If you do find mold on them, just wipe it off with a paper towel or soft cloth. Some people recommend using an antifungal powder; but I've never found it necessary.

Thanks for the quick responses! I am actually using Hatch rite since it always worked for me. The egg has no veins and is yellow inside. I will take your advices and leave it alone. Though the incubator reeks of rotten egg and that's whats getting me worried. But if you say to leave it alone, then I will because this is the first time happening to me and I am freaking out honestly. Thanks! I'll let you know what happens later on.

I concur with the others, besides the smell. It won't really affect the rest of your clutch, trying to remove the bad egg can do more harm than good.

Thanks, I'll leave it be. Does this happen often when an egg has veins from the beginning and then just dies like that? I have the thermostat at 89 and perfect humidity, so I don't know what went wrong.

How often it happens, I couldn't say. But it does happen, and most of the time it's not your fault. There is just a malfunction with the egg and it doesn't go if it only has some veins.

You might want to lift the eggs, and change the soiled HatchRite. That will reduce the smell, and minimize the chance of further problems (insects, mold, egg death).

I was thinking "once"; but if it gets nasty again, I would probably change it. I do prefer to minimize handling the eggs during incubation; but sometimes it has to be done.

Disclaimer: I have no experience with HatchRite; so I don't know how much of a problem the ooze might be. With vermiculite, as mentioned earlier, I just cover eggs like that (if they can't be removed) and have never had a problem.

Thanks a lot for the advice. I'll keep checking them from time to time and change the HR when needed and also monitor what's going on. Now I just have to cross my fingers and hope for the best. It's going to be a long 5 weeks :-/

Hey kristen, i got the adult albino female from you less thn a yr ago. She doin great! Layed 7 eggs bout 2-3 weeks ago to my male banana.
Came across this & had similar issue. Ours was jus not fertile, perfect egg jus no veins. It was on the botom but stuck to 2 others. We actually cut it off. Basically use a new razor, have someone hold the clutch, drain the egg from the dottom. Thn carefully cut away the bad egg from the good eggs. Leave a lil bit of the bad egg on the others but cut as close as you feel comfortable with. Do not cut the good eggs. Your call but it worked for us. Good luck, mabe we see you at wht plains.

Hey Chris! Wow congratulations! I'm so happy that she is doing well and 7 eggs is awesome! What did you breed her to? I think I asked you at the last show, but I forgot sorry.

I see you have the same situation as me. I did look up on other forums of people with the same problem and they all said to cut it. But, I really don't want to mess things up so I might just leave it. I'll just go by what I see is happening and if it's affecting my other eggs (whether wiping off the mold or not) then I might cut it and drain it. Thanks so much and I will try and make it to the next white plains show. If not, then I'll see you sometime in the future, haha. :-D

She was bred to a banana male. Next yr will be neet to see what a albino banana looks like if we hit it. Take care, sure ill run into you somewhere, haha

Be very careful using any anti-fungal stuff, don't use the powder spray it will kill eggs! Also don't cover large portions of the eggs with powder. Someone on a forum said it was fine and I lost a good clutch of eggs from it. Wiping the mold off seems to work just fine. I keep mine on a few layers of plastic grid to keep them from direct contact with the substrate which helps reduce mold from too much moisture. Good luck with them :)
