    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

So I'm interested in learning how old you were when you got your first snake.
 
I was 10 at the time and in the fifth grade.

I was searching for tree frogs and green anoles when I discovered a female melanistic Eastern Hognose Snake in my Aunt and Uncle's back yard. "Adder" was my very first snake and the one who further sparked my passion for these animals. (By the way, I'm originally from Georgia as well. The Eastern Hognose Snake was found in Lakeland, GA very near Valdosta.)
 
I was 11, and also in the 5th grade when I got my first little critter. I remember coming across garters and such in the yard, and bought a Rough Green Snake. Man that was one fun snake... I had such a blast with that little guy... I've owned over 30+ different reptiles since then...
 
I was eight, and my first snake was an albino burm. I named her Madussa and absolutely loved her. When I was forced to sell her, she was 11-12 ft long. One day she was out on my bed with me asleep, and my mom's 10 pound house dog jumped on the bed and scared her. I don't think she was trying to kill the dog for food, but was trying to kill him nonetheless. My dad, brother, and I were able to get her off the dog without the dog getting seriously injured, but mom said I had to sell her. Since then, i've owned several ball pythons and am addicted to them, lol.
 
i was like 6ish..... i worked my little butt off to make the money to buy my first rosy, which died about 2 months after i bought it. it ate sand for some reason even though i fed ever week... so my parent bought another from a better breeder after seeing how it broke my little heart, i still have her and love her greatly! i added a little female ball about 6 months ago and a rescued californian desert glossy snake
 
I was 16 when I purchased my 1st redtail boa.
 
I can't remember how old I was. I remember bringing home paper grocery sacks full of snakes. My mom would let me keep them for a while. The first snake I kept was a garter snake. I had to be around 6 or so. I put it in a bird cage and learned never to do that again. Art
 
It was probably around 10 years old also. Although I can't remember the exact age I do remember exactly where I caught it and what species it was. That day changed my life forever.
 
I caught and kept my first little "pet" garter when I was probably about 5....if only my Mom knew that by letting me keep it, she was allowing the beginning of a lifelong addiction, lol....
 
I don't know how young I was then , but it was 2 ringnecks as I was digging worms to go fishing. I might have had them for a couple of days until mom found out and then they were free again.I'm now 49 and still have a few critters and mom lives here so go figure.
 
I was 10 yrs old and had been staying with my grandparents as my parents had gone on vacation. My brother and I had caught an Eastern milk snake in my grandparents yard. We asked grandma to take us up to the pet shop so we could find out what type of snake we had, so she did. The guy at the pet shop told us it was an Eastern Milk Snake and he was interested in it. We gave it to him in trade for a baby Ball python. Grandma was a little upset with us when we got back in the car. She then took us back to our house so we could set up his tank which we did right on the kitchen table so mom and dad would see it when they got home. A week later mom and dad arrived to pick us up and take us home. When we got home and mom and dad seen our new pet they were livid :hot: Dad told us we had one week to get rid of it or he would take care of it :uzi: I removed the snake for the table and put him in my bedroom. A week went by and dad had seem to have forgotten about the snake. Soon after we purchased a few other snakes and nothing was ever said. I moved out of mom and dads house when I was 23, I had 9 snakes and gave them all to my brother who still lived their. To this day our first ball python is still alive. My brother and I keep and breed over 100 Ball pythons every year along with several other snakes and lizards. As for our parents they are very proud of what this has turned into for us, If dad had made us get rid of that ball python, I may not be here typing this post!!!
 
I don't even remember when I had my first snake, but I do know that I have a lot now, and I won't stop for the world!

Now there's a piece of information that will stick with me for the rest of my life. :raspberry
I'm an oldie here, or a newbie whichever you want it to be. I was 29 before I got my first snake, a BP. I still have him. My parents hated snakes and my mom was simply terrified of snakes. She used to beat defenseless nightcrawlers to death with a broom when they would crawl up on the porch when it rained. She'd do that while screaming, "Snake, Snake, Snake." It was really comical to see. So having a snake as a kid was a no-no.
 
I'm an oldie too! My herp love started around 5, as I remember running around and catching all the frogs I could. But, I just got my first snake 6 whole days ago! He's awesome, and I really wonder why I had waited so long.
 
Good to seem some oldies here..was feeling left out :) Always loved snakes, but never had the opportunity to get one. So I'm 27 and had my first snake for 11 whole days! Hope to be the first of many!! Dang..I wish you could keep corns in GA!
 
I was 6 when i CAUGHT my first garter snake. Vince was his name. We watched tv together. And then one day Vince ws gone. Had him for 2 months.

Watched some TV, had a bit of popcorn together, a bit of idle chit chat here and there...sigh, nothing beats them garter snakes for company :D
