    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I know some people use the provent a mite spray but it is now illegal in Florida for retailers to sell or ship to Florida so what can I use as a precaution to prevent mites?

Proper quarantine will prevent the spread. There isn't much you can do to prevent it when purchasing besides a thorough inspection and selective purchasing.

Some people use NIX bedding spray and permethrin for treatment, but I would research fully before going this route.

Ok thanks! None have mites now I was just wondering if anyone uses any preventative measures. I dont think I will use NIX as my snakes are housed in the same room as my geckos and that stuff can be lethal to geckos. I house everything seperate and I make sure my hands are washed before I handle each snake or anything in their enclosure so I think I am good.

I did some looking and I saw it was mentioned a few times about being illegal in NY, but I couldn't find anything in regards to Florida.

when I take an animal in, or bring back from a show I do the following.

1. spray the animal with reptile relief (natural chemistry's reptile spray) lightly enough to cover the animal but not soak. I massage it all over the snake head to tail. I let them dry in a soak tub for 20-30 minutes.
2. rinse off the animal
3. let soak in tub of warm water

now for tubs and bedding I use PAM for tubs when doing periodic tub swaps. I do this every couple months to do a mite prevention. I spray all my bedding with RID spray. When I buy the bedding in bulk (atleast 10 boxes), I use large white tubs to store a couple in to be used next. Those tubs are sprayed with RID before bedding goes in, and the bedding gets sprayed. This treats the bedding for woodmites which are only annoying to the snakes. Doing this along with keeping your quarantine rack somewhere else and always using hand sanitizer should keep you from ever having mites.

if you can't get PAM, what about Black Knight? I haven't used it but heard it's a good product like PAM

I have used Black Knight (BK2) and it works just the same as PAM only costs more and can be harder to get. The big thing is if you treat every snake for mites before entering your collection, these methods WILL work for you. I forgot to mention that everything in my quaritine rack goes on paper towels and is sprayed with PAM right before the animal goes in there. If I have no animals in the rack I spray the section of the rack with PAM as well before putting the snakes in there. This helps kill anything and lets you see everything right away. The scariest thing about mites is imagine if you bring in a animal that has ibd, mites bite it then move to other snakes and bite them.......collection gone!

you can always get permethrin and mix it yourself. It is an active ingredient in a lot of pestisides. I know some big breeders that do that. If not just go to Walmart and get RID (lice treatment) spray, or if you can find it they sell their brand, equate. I have wanted to try it but can't find it here.
