In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Hi All,

I'm having a humidity issue. I have my ball in a 40 gal breeder with 1/2in foam insulation on the sides and back. A 100-watt infrared for heat (dry). I was using aspen shaving. With all of that humidity was at 28%

To improve the humidity I switched substrates from aspen to eco-Earth which brought the humidity up to a steady 48%.

I am thinking of adding some sphagnum moss to the hide, however, I'm concerned that using the damp substrate / moss may prove problematic in the long run and possibly bad for the health of my BP.

This is my first BP and I've only had her two months, I was hoping someone with more experience will have some insight on this.

~Thanks

Is this an aquarium? If it is, and has a screen top, try wrapping 1/2 of the screen with plastic or something. You might also want to think about under tank heat, like Flexwatt controlled by a thermostat, this way you can keep the temp stable, and it will come up through the substrate. I also use Cyprus mulch (clean) every now and then, I just dump a couple cups of water in the mulch, and it stay slightly moist. Good luck.

I've switched to tubs, but back when I had glass I put an unglazed flower pot in a dish of water. A sponge in a dish may work too. Anything that will get wet surface exposed to air.

Heat lamps are no good for balls, no matter what they tell you in the pet store, they dry out cages fast. You need to put an under the tank heater with a thermostat. Get a piece of plexiglass for the top to cover 90-95% of the top. Holds in heat and humidity. No Eco earth, gets real dry when it dries out. Aspen or cypress mulch. Fresh water every few days, and mist while in shed. And you should have no problems.
