    =====================

I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

hi please help me....
on 3/27/13 we bought a male full grown boa from a reptile shop in NH
he was in a rack/big bin on newspaper, with no water and 2 pest strips (enough to treat 2,500 sq feet), for 600$ ($400 cash and they too our ETB in trade ($200)
they told us he was on live large rats :( , he was in shed and past the bluish eyes, with visable shedding/peeling and they told us when we get home soak him in warm water, they said we could even leave him in the water over night

when we got him home we put him in a 40 breeder for quarenteen and soaked him in about an inch in a half of water for about an hour ( we repeated this for the next 2 days.)
we put him on newspaper, with a waterbowl. (for quarenteen)
he was very hissy, and in shed. he seamed to be uncomfortable and refused to eat. we tried live rats, stunned rats and f/t rats.
we soaked him again but this time we put a hand towel down under him and on top of him (not covering his head) in warm water. he kept trying to submerge his head?
we did help him shed when we soaed him in the water with the wet hand towels because he was having issues shedding. and after5 we put him back in the tank on newspaper. later we noticed he had blac mars on parts of his underside. (thining it was friom the print on the newspaper)

we did let the reptile shop know 2ce that he was having these issues and what we were doing for them. they told us that he may just be stressed and to give him time.. he refused another meal

on friday 4/5/13 we went to NY to visit a friend and when we returned on sunday 4/7/13 HE WAS DEAD!!!!!!
we were devistated, he looked horrible and had brownish patches on him? we did not know what to do so we froze him.

today 4/8/13 i called a vet in NH and planned on going to get an in house narcropsy done. i contacted the reptile shop and told them that he died and that we were going to bring him in to the vet to get the narcropsy done. they said they would get back to me and a few min later they told me NOT to drop him off to the vet and told me to bring him there (to the shop)
not feeling really comfortable with this , i did agree and drove there with the snake.
on the way there i called 3 people/friends that are into reptiles and all said that nothing that we did could have killed him, and their hunch was that he was sick when we got him not even 2 weeks ago..

when i got to the shop they took the snakke upstairs and said that we killed the snakke by "pre shedding him"????
i said i would still bring him to get the narcropsy done and he said that i could if i wanted to but it would be a waste of my money because he died because of the shed!!!!

they said that they would get back to us in a few days so they could see what they could come up with.

honestly i dont really want another snake from them at this point.
this is the 2nd time that we had an issue with a reptile there, the last was when we bought a $350 red and white tegu and also bought everything that they reccomended to feed him (including calcium!!!, from day one was not eating much and i went back every week or so to the reptile shop and talked with them, then bought what they suggested, all with no results.... tegus should eat!!!! so i had a vet visit with another pet and decided to bring him in also. turned out he had pinworms and flagalids.
i immediately went inm to the store with him and told them about the vets findings and they said he looks ok and that is normal for reptiles to have parasites, and they do not reinburse for vet bills.upset i called the shop the next day and an employee told me to bring him in that they would either give me a store credit or give us another animal.
the next day i drove up there and handed him to the employee that i spoke to the night before. he said oh he is in rough shape (they said it could be a calcium deficiency) and they could not take him back. they said we probably did not have the tank hot enough. and i felt like they were blaming this on us!!!! i told them that if they think that than they should take him in and at least get him better!!! i left upset.
that night i got a phone call from the employee saying that he was doing sooooo much better. i asked if he had eaten and how they got him to eat, they said that they havent fed him they just stablized him....
we spoke about some sort of return and they offered a partial credit, at this point we just took the partial credit......

please give us your feedback as to why the sunglow boa died after only having it for under 2 weeks....
and what do you thin is a fair thing for them to do...

i want a full refund but because we had traded our ETB and gave them $400 cash we would like our ETB back and the $400 cash too

what are your thoughts

the shop is only offering us a suriname something that we are not interested in.
and keep trying to place the blame of the sunglows death!!!!

im very upset and need some helpful advise on how to solve this problem:censored:

Andrew,

Sorry to hear about your loss of your new snake. I honestly think your snake could have died from a number of things but the things that caused it to pass were not your fault. The no pest strip in the cage with the snake might be linked to his death the fact that it was enough to treat 2500 sq ft. They have been known to be toxic to reptiles (the no pest strips). Also it sounds like the snake perhaps had mites and was being treated for mites, No water in the enclosure and no pest strips in the enclosure, usually pet stores do that for mite treatments.

My word of advice would be to see what you can recover from the store either credit your snake you traded back and do not purchase animals from there anymore.

For a peace of mind I would take the snake to the vet for the necropsy, most pet stores dont want customers taking animals to the vet. They would rather you bring the animal back and then tell you some crazy things like all animals have parasites or you made it die or sick. The parasites you said your tegu had was more likely due to improper husbandry on the stores part.

I hope this wasnt a normal boa that you paid 400 for? And I would post this in the BOI as it will get more attention and suggestions on what you should do to attain a reasonable outcome.

1) If you wanted to have a necropsy done, you shouldn't have frozen the snake.
2) No Pest strips are toxic, and two full strips in a small enclosure isn't safe.
3) While many boas will eat while in shed, this one wasn't. While it is likely that there were other considerations, you added to his stress with such frequent feeding attempts.
4) One can cause problems & infection by prematurely removing a shed; but it doesn't happen that quickly...and, since you said it had visible peeling, it is unlikely that that was a problem unless you peeled more than the sloughing layer.
5) Pictures of the snake??
6) Too much information missing to give a best educated guess; but, based on what you did say, I'd be inclined to feel the snake didn't die because of something you did (though I would ask a lot more questions before I actually came out and said that).

I believe this was a Sunglow boa, but had a little trouble following the main post.

jeff about getting our healthy adult etb back??? i asked him on wed if they still had it (that was only 2 weeks after we traded it they said "no sorry byddy its already gone" i would have thought that a shop would have at least kept a trade for a month to make sure everything is ok with the snake but i guess not :/
i froze the sunglow on sunday 4/7/13 (not knowing that it should have been put in the fridge :(, i was going to bring it to a vet right down the street from the shop the next am, for an in house necropsyand i told the shop this. they said "bring him here" do not bring him to the vet". not knowing any better i did. this is when they said that we had killed him by helping him shed. BS

chad,
it was a sunglow adult male (now knowing i still got ripped off by paying 650)

harrold,
i pm'd you

we have asked them for a full refund!!! or at the very least a $600. store credit....
they offered a surname boa lol
now they said we could have a pair of surnames
i told them that i am not interested in a surname..

what should i do....

A majority of the pet stores in business have one goal and that is to sell animals, make money and would not quartine reptiles yet alone properly take care of them or give sound advice on how to take care of them. I would not take anymore animals from this store. What did your receipt say as wise as a health guarantee.

Just curious...is this the same adult male sunglow you posted for sale on 3/30 and 4/5?
