In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

How long do you usually have your incubator up and running for before your girls lay? I am just fine tuning mine to make sure everything is OK but my girl hasn't even done her pre lay shed. LOL I don't even know IF I will get eggs. So should I just pack it away until I get...hopefully eggs? Thanks

Thank you. I just put my container with my vermiculite in it trying to get the proper humidity and make sure the temps inside the container are OK. I am suppose to get a Helix this weekend. I was so stoked I got a Helix for only $65. It is used but that shouldn't matter.

oh yes I do..... now you have me worried...... are the used Helix's bad???? oh no did I waste my money????
not at all...I just meant that I am not a stellar example of preparedness.
While I start out with the best of intentions, and usually get my incubator upstairs at least a week before the eggs arrive...but I don't always manage to get it plugged in til I see them. Then it goes like this:
Sees eggs.
Moves incubator to desired spot (if it isn't there already).
Plugs cords into Tstat, Tstat into outlet.
Fills bottles with warmish water, dries them, and places them in incubator.
Prepares vermiculite mixture, using warmish water (all by feel)
Double checks media temperature - usually, it is close enough for me
Moves eggs into box, separating them if possible.
Places box in incubator.

That said - I usually do set up the incubator a couple of days before I expect the eggs. I rarely prepare egg boxes in advance...and, even if I do, I usually end up messing with them again before I put the eggs in. (I do have spare Tstats, heat tape, plugs, etc in case there is a problem

*of course, this is not a new incubator for me...if I was playing with something different, I would make sure I had at least run it a few days to check everything out.

Mine are up and running now and I'm 6 weeks away from my first hopeful clutch. The incubator I used last year never got shut off so maybe I'm not the best to answer this question. Lol.
