I could care less what others think of the boi...for me, it has proven itself to be a valuable tool time and time again, and has certainly saved me enough money "out" to easily make the ten bucks worthwhile. If some in the reptile community have a hard-on for Fauna, let them...this site isn't going anywhere but up. (did find the "rome built in a day" bit...laughable)

Rich, you must have known that posting that link was going to cause nothing but arguments.

I thought it was an interesting example of how some people will stoop so low with obvious lies and fabrications to try to attack a site like this using an anonymous vehicle. Obviously some people believe in a zero sum process in life: In order to get ahead, you have to knock someone else back. The fact that arguments may ensue because of my bringing this up was a regrettable side effect, but needed to be done regardless, as an interesting view of the personalities that infest this business.

All I can say about the backhanded and snide comments made by some here is that you are known by the company you keep.

This is all very sad.

Several people encouraged me to go check out TRR, and I have. I registered over there just a few days ago. I'd like to think it wasn't done to get me to "defect" from Fauna, because that's not going to happen.

There are great people, smart people, honest people on Fauna...and on TRR ...and on the BC forums....and on RTB. Probably on KS too, but I don't go there so I can't say.

Nope, I don't go to KS. I used to advertise there, and their classifieds worked well for me. However, there were some things that happened there that lead to my decision to not go to KS anymore. That's my choice. I'm sure that JeffB hasn't noticed, nor did it effect his bottom line. I haven't started any campaigns against KS. I haven't degraded the people that continue to advertise on or participate at KS.

I simply made a personal choice.

I have read the many opinions about the changes here. Yet, I'll say it again: IT'S RICH'S SITE TO DO WITH AS HE PLEASES! To me, this site is worth the membership fee and then some. I like the forums here. I like the BOI. I like the people. I like the classifieds.

The people who don't like it here don't have to come. I can respect that. What I don't understand is the ANGER over the decisions that Rich made.... the gleeful predictions of the downfall of Fauna. Will the herp community be better off if that were to happen? Of course not! So why would anyone wish it?

Conversely, I don't understand the nastiness towards those that left Fauna. It was their choice. While I believe that several people seemed to go on the "attack" against Rich after the decision was made, I sensed that it was out of a sense of betrayal. Many people believed that THEY had built this site, and now THEY were going to be charged for it. Others felt, as I did, that they'd gotten great benefit from this site, and had been able to enjoy it without any sense of responsibility for it or obligation to it, and if they now needed to kick in some $$ to utilize all the services of the site, were willing to do it.

Same situation, different perceptions. Some members felt taken advantage of, and Rich felt unappreciated and betrayed to a point.

I was hoping that everyone would go lick their wounds and let things die down. It doesn't look like that's going to happen, and it's really a shame. Bridges are being burned, respect is being lost, and chasms are opening up.

Is it necessary?

This will be my last post here sense I am getting points for posting in this thread. The points are for the full name thing. but to my understanding the BOI is paid now and the paid forums were the ones needing the full name sence I am not paying I removed my name. Fair enough don't you think?

But I will get a point for this I bet no worries though. I will be changing my email becuase I do not want to get the mass emails(not that they are bad). Ken read and replied to this thread and so did Rich but I just got them points today. So I feel Rich got upset about my posts and found a way to give me a warning lol.

Shoot bro I would ask you do remove me from the database but I know you will not. It will hit the total member number and I know it is not that hard to delete a member. What two or three clicks of the mouse? Oh I know it will leave holes in the BOI. Something so many put time in that now they have to pay to post again. And if not there info they posted is used to get money......................... But no worries and no hard feelings

Gary, you know the rules here. This forum is a subforum of the BOI and subject to the same rules as the BOI concerning full names. I only left this one open to non paying members to give everyone the ability to comment on issues here without having to pay for that privilege. But typically, that gets spit in my face too, it seems.

And so you say that all of this barely concealed acrimony of yours is because I rejected your suggestion that I check out some servers that were inapropriate for my needs? And several of the main detractors of my change here are mods from your site is just a coincidence? I am sorry you feel that this is the manner in which you need to make progress with your own site, Gary. But that is your choice to make.

I followed the link this morning, in order to ponder why others would take such unseemly shots at this site, and found several new derogatory posts. These are now outweighed by those expressing approval and satisfaction:

Each day (one can only post once a day) I have gone to express my support, I ask and encourage y'all to do the same. Those who know my writing style will know which posts there are mine; I have seen many others whose style I do not recognize post about all the good qualities and aspects of Fauna. I am only one person, but my vote counts; I intend to go there and be counted.

Perhaps to ponder this one must first ponder over why when KS made needed changes to their site some years back that people had a blast/party here on this site bashing the hell out of Jeff over it because they didn't "like" those changes. To this day some people continue to bash KS for changing. Now the shoe is on the other foot and it is Rich's site that is going through similar changes. Why would people NOT take unseemly shots at this site or make derogatory posts? If people were angry enough or spiteful enough to do it to KS then there are going to be people angry enough or spiteful enough to do it to this site too.


People want their conflict. They want their "fix". Fauna and KS's main conflict apparently has been resolved in some unpublicised manner. So people need some other conflict to stir up for people to talk about on Fauna.

I have found it to be a bit on the hypocritical side to see anyone try to attempt to justify that it's OK to attack any reptile website out there but just NOT this one! KS is a popular site and people went to Fauna to whine and bitch and attack in relative safety. Fauna is a popular site and people found a place to whine and bitch and attack in relative safety. And the next "popular" site dejour that that finds themself in the same boat as KS and Fauna? The circle will keep coming around and nothing will change because people don't want to change things by just stopping with the attacks and counter attacks/defense arguements. ::shrug::

You know, I have to side with Adrian on this. Freedom is a luxury and a curse, apparently. I have read those commends over on ReptiRank and find them rather hilarious, so I don't see any need for anyone here to go over there and try to defend this site from what is being said there. Quite simply, all anyone who reads that stuff has to do is to come over here and look around for themselves and make up their own minds.

So are those posts being made by bad guys who got outed here, by mods and admins of other forums just trying to stir up the crap and hope they float to the top, or just people who just upset with my change in policy here concerning paying memberships? Or maybe all of the above. Who knows?

Generally from what I have seen, those types of people simply thrive on conflict and anger. If they get you angry, they are happy. They have succeeded in what they tried to do. The best weapon against them is to either ignore them completely or just laugh at their infantile rantings. All they really want is attention. They want the feeling that what they think and say can make a difference in their othewise inconsequential lives.

So please, just don't feed them.
