    =====================

I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

How many "Giants" were available at Daytona? I am honestly considering purchasing a couple!

Giant at daytona

When i showed up saturday at 2 pm ron still had like 20-30 animals but i know he sells like half his stuff before the show and he sells quick once it opens. I also know alberto had probably 10-20 giants at his table and kelli had some giant hets but i don't think any actual giants. JMG i heard was there but didn't see them and i know they buy stuff from ron but i don't know if they work with giants. Ron definitly had some huge animals on his table a couple males that were easily 130+ gram males.

Hummm!

a couple males that were easily 130+ gram males.

With all the animals that were sold under the name Giant! I personally want to see more than 2 ! Not trying to get anyones Goat I am just stating the obvious.

In the hands of some of us that spoil our animals, it is possible they would grow bigger. Tremper may not feed more than he deems necessary to keep his animals healthy and breeding. When you have that many animals to feed, who knows?

Giants are real!!!

Well, I don't have any that are full grown....... But I do have a few that are on the way. I have a 3 month old male who weighs 40 grams, a 4 month old female who weighs 46 grams and a 5 month old female who weighs 55 grams. I have two adult females that are supposed to be giants, but each are about 85 grams after breeding............

I got them all from Alberto....... They definitely look different than my other geckos. I think most people are breeding them too early, before they reach their full size.......... and that's why we aren't seeing that many

Matt

If thats so!

Giants are real!!!
And I actually would hope it is. The thing is they have been out for plenty enough time to prove them out. I have heard of maybe a handfull of 100 gram plus animals. That just makes absolutely NO sense for a "Morph" that was SUPPOSED to be simple recessive!

THERES NO IFS ANDS OR BUTTS ABOUT IT!!!!!!

I agree, ginats are real. When I went to Tremper's place, I saw all his animals first hand, do not doubt this guy, he is years ahead of anyone in terms of knowledge and projects. While I do not think Tremper Giants are truely a simple recessive, maybe more like a co-dominant or imcomplete dominant. Either way, these geckos are huge, the largest I've ever seen.

Giants???

Ok I have purchased 2 giants from Ron Tremper and so far they aren't that big. I recieved them in May and the male that I ordered is 50 grams and the female I haven't weighed lately...she's a little booger. I also have a male that wasn't purchased as a giant and he is my biggest of all weighing in at 90 grams. My giants are getting up there, and I'm hoping they prove out.

Giants

well if any one has compared a giant with a normal at the same age the giant will be much longer and lanky looking they are not advertised as always 100 grams plus he states that males routinely reach 100 grams but they are indeed bigger average leos are 8 inches give or take a giant when full grown is always over 10 from what i have seen my adult male giant is 85 and he isint the best feeder and he is huge when compared to any of my other males personally i think giants are big reguardless what they eat that is why they are a giant if i were to regulate any of my other non giant males to what my giants eat they would be deffinatly way smaller but at the same time most giants arnt heavy feeders they are more docile in nature also i believe that it is a simple recessive seeing how i have never seen a giant baby grow up to be less that 10 inches but also at the same time no one has truely proven the giants from het to het breeding so untill that happens it wont be fully proven in my own personal oppinion but they are awsome animals non the less and larger than normal just not huge like everone expects when they hear giant and they think of moose which is an anomily in the trait not all giants are that big and there is always variation with every animal with a recessive trait they are not all exactly the same look at the way there is variation in any other simple recessive trait like blizzards and patternless and albinos they all vary in color, lightness,or darkness just as these are all color morphs giants are asize morph so ther is the variation in their size sorry i am rambling on but there is alot more to giants than huge animals like moose but this will always be a contriversial topic no matter what either you believe or you dont belive it is as simple as that

yeah but how old is he?

well if any one has compared a giant with a normal at the same age the giant will be much longer and lanky looking

this is 100% true.

i have 3 giant albinos and all three are docile and much bigger than any other geckos i have that are at least the same age. weather thats all passed on through a single recessive gene or not is the only question here. they are clearly different.

this discussion has taken place already and im surpised its resurfaced on a seperate thread. search the forum for discussions on giants... there are a ton and they all start like this one.

We don't know, our question to Ron Tremper about their ages was never answered. (We purchased a male albino and a female het) I can tell you that on June 10 the male was 25 grams and now he is 50 grams. He was around 4 in. in length when we got him, and now he is close to six. Do these sound like good numbers for a giant? I don't know as these two are my first, but they do appear more lanky than our "normal" sized leos.

Tony

those numbers are right just think have you ever seen a normal sized lleo gain 25 grams in 6 weekks it sounds as though there are around 4-5 monthes tremper usuallly sellls animals in the 2 month range give or take and have you noticed howw they reqallly dont have such a great appetite to sustain this kind of growth? that is why i believe in them they are huge no matteer what you feed them but i know from experiance that my leos that get over 70 grams and are not giants eat like pigs and they must to suustain this larger size where as giants do not this is just an observation of mine and is my opinion from what i hae experianced so take it for what it is worth to you

thanks Billy

I bought a giant male from Ron at Daytona last year, and ordered a female which he sent to me after the show. The male has grown quite large, but the female's size is nothing to write home about. Obviously I can not speak as to how the trait is passed (simple recessive or otherwise), but I do keep accurate growth records for the geckos that I have. Below are the charts for the two giants that I have. (Incase anyone didn't know, the date on the left is yr/mo/dy) The male has eaten only mealworms, and the female has eaten almost only mealworms with the exception of a few pinkies since I bred her this year. I did not breed the two giants together, I bred them with other "normal size" geckos that I have and wanted to breed their offspring with another giant later down the line. Although, the female has not grown huge in weight, she does have a more lanky apearance and longer tail than a normal has.

Is it possible you bred the female too soon and stunted her growth?

Well she wasn't bred until march of this year, and she remained nearly the same weight as when I had received her nearly six months earlier. Not saying that it's not possible or that she doesn't have the "giant" trait, just that my particular female remained close to the same weight for the 6 months I had her up until I bred her and has continued at the same weight. Does anyone have any knowledge of how giant females tend to top out in weight compared to giant males?

dunno

im thinking this exactly is why (opinion) ron say they r best paired at ten months , all geckos grow differently , and if everyone wait s till ten months , noone should be breeding them too small !!! sure some will breed at 6 mo`s ( if they r actually big enough ) , but when u get some people that want to breed them at 5 mo`s (even if theyre not so big yet) that is the problem !!!! mine are 5 mo`s old and over 9 inches each , and at least 60 grams ,(have not been weighed for awhile ) same size about just the male is more lanky !!! if we wait till 40 grams to breed non-giant leos , maybe we should breed giants after 70 even 80 grams weight !! i can allready tell mine are going to be around or over 100 grams !! i dunno just my two cents
