Driving the short bus....
Well, after 10 years I am trying to figure out if my first litter after that 10 year sabbatical is actually going to happen or not. I purchased a large 8 foot female from a guy who stated that he was 100% confident she was gravid. He due date was technically yesterday. When I first received her I thought I could see that she was rather large in the right area's but over time this went down and I could not see any evidence of her being gravid. I had a good friend of mine and fellow herper stop by about a week ago and he took a look and said that she was definately not gravid. She was not swollen and there was no white exposed under her scales. Keep in mind, she is only about as round as a coke can at her widest so she is not one of those females where they are naturally large and thereby it's hard to tell.
Anyways, today I go down to take a look at her (I had just moved her into a new enclosure over the weekend) and she is laying on her side with her head at about a 45 degree angle. Her mouth was open just a little at the side and I could see what I believe to be fairly rapid (1 every second) movements of her belly about 2/3rds down. To me, anyways, this was not normal breath movements etc. I looked at her head closely and she was nice and dry at her nostrils so I don't believe I have a RI issue (not to mention that her enclosure is actually kept quite dry and is large 4x30x24H).
I don't know. It's been so long I don't remember the good signs from the bad one's anymore. Thoughts?
