In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Is this girl too fat?.........

Hi Everyone,

I was just checking on all of my geckos and I really noticed this girl. A lot of my geckos have the fat pockets but this girl REALLY has them. Do you guys think she is too fat, or is she healthy?

Thanks,
Matt

way to fat, is it just me or does her tail not size up to the rest of her body, shes fat in the body and not so much in the tail? have you been feeding this one more then normal? or alot of wax worms?

With another picture...

Matt,

The buldges that she has under the arms are sign that she is healthy or at least eating good...i am concerned with seeing her tail...i want to see her tail before i make any incorrect assumptions...would you post a another pic...with her maybe laying on something, so we can see her full body?

It is obvious from this pic that she is healthy......

I was trying to show her fat pocket's because they just looked really inflated.

Thanks,
Matt

hey you notice how fat the tail is on that one, and no fat pockets under the arms? are fat pockets under the arms something that happens in older geckos?

Fat pockets...

I do not want to make a general statement about the relation between fat pockets and age...but she does have them, and she is about 7 months old, and weighting more than 60 grams. The thing is that in the pic, she is not showing the fat pockets. Hmmm...i do have many both adult and juveniles that have fat pockets...

Flexion of the arm...

Vince, the fat pockets can truly be seen if their arms are closer to the body (adduction movement)...she doesnt have her arm too flexed, and that is why she doesnt show them.

cool, thanks for the info, i guess a little extra meat on there gecko bones doesnt hurt. it probly helps to prevent them for getting skinny durring egg laying/breeding . my geckos always slim down after a clutch an beef up before the next one, i guess maybe i should feed mine more that way the transition is alot easyer on them.

in my experience, some will get huge tails, while others wont. I have a few girls that will not get really big tails, but they eat as much as my others and will sometimes get the fat pockets.

This is going to sound rookie-ish. I would love to hear someone with a little better understanding of reptile genetics explain these *fat pockets*. Are you guys positive that these swells are fat storage? I have never really seen a straight answer, that had any type of factual basis. I have noticed they tend to swell at the start of breeding season (similar to a deers neck in rut, for you hunters). Sometimes it is not always the geckos with the biggest of tail. I have wondered for some time if it was perhaps hormonal, but felt like a fool asking. I have only had geckos since 2000, and after 4 years I am still fealing ignorant on this subject.

there are no dumb questions, and that is a good point. maybe not hormonal but maybe they hold back more fat for the breeding season? i dont think fat pockets would be genetic, thats like saying if 2 fat people had a kid that kid is preset to be fat,

i am not saying anyone is wrong about them being fat pockets, and i am aware from humans that we all store fat in different areas and different quantities. if someone could point me to an article or scientific reference, it would be much appreciated.
