In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    Addendum: 01/10/2026
    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I think her add is a little fishy on king snake. She has an add placed Albey’s Hypo Carrot Tail

And she has a photo of the animal that she says is the animal in the "before" Picture. And they look nothing alike.

Proven breeder - currently gravid. Her Original picture from
Albey’s Too Cool Reptiles and the male she has been paired
with pictured above. $300.00 + Shipping

P.S that's both pictures in the zip file just incase they get removed from KS.

I see your point, Christa. My knowledge of geckos is really limited, but can anyone comment on how common it is for a gecko to change appearance so much? Is it normal, uncommon, totally impossible?

What's odd is that both photos show a nice looking animal, so I wonder why she'd bother posting a pic that is not of the animal for sale. Odd.

I could be wrong but...

it looks to me like this pic...

and this pic...

are of the same animal, the first being in Albey's care, the second being in her possesion, at a late date. Unless I'm missing something they look like the same animal, just some minor changes that are common in Leopard's from sub-adult to adulthood. Take notice of the "white" splotch in the center right where the carrot coloration meets the yellow behind both hind legs in the first pic. Then check out the second pic, same area...in my experiences, I've noticed that with age comes more intense brown spotting. Again, that's just my opinion but I'm almost 100% and once you check that out, all the other "differences" should be more visually apparent.

and this pic...

is of the male she may possibly be gravid by.

Sorry if this "layout" confuses anyone, I'm a little confused myself, but I may be missing something. That's just how I saw it.

confused

then angel of the shot and the lighting i think is what is throwing people off a bit. The 2 of the female seem to me to be the same but as they age colorations and spots do change... spots will lighten up and disapear..
Had them been taken by the same photographer..with the same lighting and angel im sure it would look allot more like the same animal.
Take into consideration filters.... background... lighting.. angel etc.
Also is one before or after shedding? The before shot could have been taken right after shedding so it is brighter in color.. the newer shot may be just before shedding when they are a bit darker in color.
Either way she is confusing people by posting 2 photos of the same animal. SHe may be trying to tell people that she has kept it in good shape and letting you see that her tail is more than big... its huge!!! So she sure looks like a good healthy animal to me.

It looks like the same animal to me also. Leopard geckos can change quite a bit from juvie/subadult to adult. Here is a dramatic illustration of that point:

A friend sent me this one, we thought for sure it was going to be a really dark adult:

Here is the same gecko about 3 months later:

Pretty big change there!

Anyway, i just thought I would share those photos in this thread.

WoW

Well I'll eat my shoe then. I just thought that for the most part leo's got lighter with age not darker!

Thanks guys for setting me straight!

mine also are much different

My leo's also are much lighter than when i first got them. I bought one in the pet shop as a baby that was sold to me as a normal but is in fact a hypo tang carrottail. ;)
lucky me got it for 20 bucks .. hehehe. They didnt know what they had. Now as an adult she has a beautiful red base to her tail and is as orange and a real tangarine :) quite a beauty!

Why is this a post?

I think this rediculous post is the very reason some people may be saying this board is for " entertainment" value only. First, no I do not find the post entertaining, but what I am saying is this post does not belong here in my opinion, bad mouths or brings into question the credibility of a business/person trying to do business and devalues a legitimet post. I feel too many people do not give the business the benefit of the doubt, LIKE in the GenerAsian thread, and jump on the bandwagon bashing businesses BEFORE any information has been gathered and both sides have had their say. I am no gek expert, but would not question the pictures I saw, and to put a "negative" post on this forum without some obvious attempt at fraud by the seller is freaking beyond me.

Someone selling a het that you know is not a het, yeah, tell us, but a pic that looks 90% like the other pic, to question that here, ...come on! Get a hobby if you have that much time on your hands...other than the retpile hobby.

David Reid

PS-this is the type of baseless questioning that may eventually be the downfall of the BOI. Someone is going to get peeved for this kind of pub. and not let it go!

David Reid- Sorry for the rambling Webslave!

I don't see any bashing here. A question was posed, some answers were given, some education was attained. No rudeness, no name calling or blame throwing. I think this is exactly why this board is here, so people who do not know can ask those who do.

Wes Pollock

Disagree

Saying an add looks FISHY and that two photos in the adds (supposedly the same animal) do not look anything alike is QUESTIONABLE for this forum, when the pics do look alike! EMAIL the seller, ask the questions there...

Dave Reid

One more point, and we will agree to...

disagree, would you like your name plastered on the boi, (your name here) missrepresented animals? Now how many people are going to remember the ?, and not associate the name with missrepresented animals....poor judgement is all I am saying, that the questions posed could have been answered in email.

Dave Reid

Emailing the seller would be fine if it was someone known to be honest. I don't think the parties involved know each other. I've been seeing leopard geckos for many years and I had some doubt about them being the same so I am not surprised at all that someone else shared that same doubt.

Anyone who has been reading this board for any length of time will know that there are many knowledgable people who most likely would know if they were the same animal just by looking at them and that those people post here regularly. I think that is exactly what happened and is just what this board was set up to do. My guess, since I rarely assume anything, is that Christa is not an expert in gecko identification and so came here for some assistance. Which she recieved.

I do agree with you that it would have been nice to simply be able to email the owner of the gecko, but not knowing if the answer would be reliable makes this board all the more valuable.

Wes Pollock

A last point here as well. I do think that the initial wording could have been much better. Perhaps using the word suspicious instead of fishy would have been a better way to word the initial inquiry. Fishy can be taken in a negative connotation very quickly.

Wes Pollock

First off I did e mail the owner of that gecko and I did ask her. And for a FULL day I didn't receive a reply.

As far as I could tell the head spots LOOKED nothing alike.

And David as far as mailing people about what they do wrong before bashing someone on the bio, You are not one to talk as I never got an e mail from you saying that I was WRONG in any kind of way for what I was posting. Nor am I going to Email you and ask you why. People have the right to post on this bio to ask questions about other people and the possibility of a wrong doing or a good deal. As I recall there have been many times when people have posted about adds that they have seen on KS or even here on the Fauna.

I did post it as a question and I'm sorry if my wording struck a nerve I will endeavor to do better next time.

Christa Rucker

First off, it is BOI, not boi...

As far as me not emailing YOU, by you emailing the gecko seller, this thread would not have been necessary, but me emailing you would have done nothing, the thread was already public, and if you reread my first post, it was not JUST about you. I saw that you did email the gecko seller, but 24 hrs was hardly enough time, some people do not live on the internet. I stand by my original post, and feel that any post similar to this thread does not belong here. Again, having written someones business name next to the words misrepresented, fraudulent, etc without having done anything actually WRONG is just not acceptable.

I stand by my original post 100%. I also think this thread could have been started much better, simply asking a question, and not using "misrepresented?" anywhere unless there was proof of fraudulent behavior.

As far as looking at adds with doubt, yes, there have been several adds brought up here, but the ones I am thinking of have been legitimate complaints, ie: Normal ball pythons being sold as Pastels. Yes, there was a problem with that add.

David Reid

Oh I see now We are going to pick on a MISS SPELLING?

and I think 24 hours is enough time to reply to someone. If you are doing INTERNET SELLS you should be checking you e mail and replying.

So I'm going back to my stand when I first came to this web site. Some people on here are not willing to answer questions to people who don't have an understanding and that WILL be the down fall to this web page. People leaving because they fill unwanted.

I still belive The Head Spots LOOK Nothing alike. But through the other posts I now agree that it is possible that the head spots can darken and change.

I think I will now just go back to lurking.
