    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I was thinking on purchaseing a Kisatchie Corn. Can someone tell me if a Kisatchie is a true corn? I was thinking on breeding him with my current stock but if he is not true corn I would not want to do that, like breeding a creamsicle into my stock, I wouldnt do that. Any information you might have on this would be greatly appreciated. :cool:

I used to think that the Kisatchie is a locality of corn snakes, just like the Okeetees and the Miami-phase specimens, but according to Don Soderburg's (sorry if I spelled that wrong, I can never remember if it's "urg" or "erg"...) website, they have "recently been described as a new species". I don't have any of them, but I have seen a few, and I think they'd be more of a sub-species of guttata than a different species altogether. Then again, what do I know about corns... lol

sounds like it could be an interbreeding between another kind of snake (plains?) But i would'nt be surprised if it were "just" a morph. With genetics, you really can't always tell without doing tests. For instance, most white multiple generation americans are supposed have some percentage of black or native american genes in their DNA, but you can't neccessarily tell from looking at them. I'm sure somewhere in many corn DNA there are some other species' genes mixed in...
I thjink the jury's still out on whether it's a new species or just a nice morph.
 
Well, I sent an E-mail to Don Soderberg and here is what he told me "Well, it's neither a corn nor an Emory's. Several years ago, it was described as the newest rat snake species in over 100 years. Hence, it would not be wise to breed to your corns. I know it's in the corn section and I now need to get that out of there. I'm glad you wrote as it had not even occurred to me.

I think i'm going to take his advice and not purchase this animal for breeding purposes until someone out there can deffinatly place a Kisatchie into the Cornsnake gene pool. Thanks to everyone who helped me with my question. It is a really beautiful naturally

Cool. Thanks for posting the info you got from Don. I agree that they're a very interesting snake, and if I didn't already have so many corns and emorys I would probably have some of those, too. Just for clarity in the future, I think it would be a good idea if people started referring to them as "Kisatchie Ratsnakes" instead of "Kisatchie Corn Snakes". :hehe:
