    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I've read that since I have a UTH I don't need a heat lamp, so I was wondering if I can use something like a clip light from Walmart or some other store? I'm also a bit confused on the wattage of the bulb...a normal 60w or 75w...it depends on the temp of the tank, right? I also read that red lights should be used all the time instead of incandescent.

I'm going to use paper towel for the bottom of the tank and I'm not sure how many layers I need to put down.

About water....is it okay to use filtered water (we use a brita)? Do I give the gecko cold water or room temp? If I can't used filtered water, we also have bottled water and I've read I can use that.

What do you need additional light for? There really is no need for supplemental lighting unless the tank is in a darkened room, to provide a photoperiod.....or if in a very cool room where you feel you need some supplemental heat. And even a 60 or 75 watt bulb puts off a lot more heat than you would realize.

I put down 2 layers of paper towel in my tanks, and I use bottled drinking water for my critters, but I would think that the Brita water would be fine. I live in the country, and have pretty rusty, hard water, even with a softener....so I just go with the bottled drinking water for everyone.

i would worry about the UTH. make sure it does not get very warm. over 80 and the geckos can die from laying on it. if you need supplememntal heat, over the tank red bulbs at a low watt are better. 40 watt bulb over the tank in one area. i use one layer of papertowels, or none in half the cage. if i use feeder insects, they hide under the paer towel, so i remove it for those nights. cleaning the cage is easy enough without papertowels anyway.

Um, Colleen......we are talking Leopard Geckos, not Cresteds this time. They NEED a hot spot well over 80.

Yeah :). I posted this somewhere else, but it was moved since it was in the wrong spot. I'm still figuring out where things go lol.

I was given a care sheet from a vendor at the last expo, and it says to have a spot lamp and a UTH.
