    =====================

I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Well I really hate for things to come to this end, but they have...

On 2/21 I shipped this gecko (http://www.neoscales.com/Pics/TwinB2.jpg) to:

Mike Kelly (forum ID: catus muncher)
600 E. Diamond
Farmington NM 87401

I shipped based on very responsive contacts and a payment I received of $200 and the balance of $50 to be paid on 2/24. Detailed in the e-mail below:

All right Randy i sent 200$ and your confirmation number is XXX it Will be their Monday or Tuesday...and the other 50 Will be sent out on the 24th after i cash my check.

I hope to see you produce some more killer cresties for me to look at (and possibly buy) especially if yo have any red guys for sale

He received the gecko and was quite pleased. He sent this email:

Hey Randy I got her she just got hear at about 11:30 and you are right she is beautiful one of the best I have ever seen, great contrast, well praportioned head, astounding belly colors and she is so calm she crawled out of the keeper and right into my hand an fell asleap. I have decided to name her Aurora.

Sadly that's where the good news ends. The 24th came and went, I contacted him and just asked for some explanation - didn't get it. I sent 2-3 other requests for payment or explanation and that I would post this information if he didn't respond - I received nothing back. I know money is short for them and I would ahve worked something out, but that's not the road they chose.

Not looking for sympathy here, since it was my choice to ship before full payment was in house. But this guy will probably be buying geckos again at some point. So get every dime before you give up the animals or you won't get it at all.

People like Mike Kelly make it easy to become cynical in this business - which we already have too much of.

Don't get Cynical!

Things like this have happened to all of us, and it is very easy to get down. IMO there are a lot more good guys than bad. At least you got most of the money!

That sucks, Randy.

Have you tried to contact via phone? It probably won't make a difference, but if his computer blew up or something he may not be able to get in touch.

Sorry you got taken. Don't let it dampen your spirit.

randy, often the good guy gets crapped on.I sent a pair of high end boas to the bremond texas police dept.(g.Thompson).did not think twice about not getting paid in full.guess what? screwed again! dont let it get you down, there are more good guys then bad. ED CLARK

Could it be?

Does the G possibly stand for Gillbert Ed? I'm not trying to take this thread off topic but I am sure we would all like to hear the details of that transaction given the truckloads of crap Gilbert has dumped on this industry. You should plug his name into the search feature here and read up on his past antics.

Your story on this infamous weasel would be greatly appreciated in a thread of it's own.

I want to clarify

That this Mike Kelly is not me! My name is also Mike Kelly and I go by Tai_pan1. I've never had a negative complaint against me. Please don't confuse me with this other character.

Thanks,

Mike

Final Resolution...

I received the $50 ($60 actually) from Mike today. Three days ago he sent me an email explaining the following:

I broke my leg and i had to use the mony for the insurance deductable and this is the first time I have had access to a computer because if you remember I told you mine crashed I sent you 60 to make up for the time lost hope thear are no hard fealings and I am genuinly sorry for the delay

...I accept his explanation on its face and by the fact that he did make good on the debt.

I'm certain Mike is an honest guy who simply doesn't place the value on communication that I do. But I fully expect that if I had taken his $250, didn't deliver the gecko on the date I promised, and then no longer answered his email pleas - he'd follow the same path to resolution that I did.

Thanks to Mike Kelly for making good.

I'm really glad to hear there was a satisfactory resolution to this, Randy.

Now, here's the $10,000 question** - Will you give the next buyer that needs to float the last $50 or so bucks the same opportunity you gave this buyer?

** I don't remember which game show that phrase is from, but it sticks in my mind.

Further Reflections....

Now, here's the $10,000 question** - Will you give the next buyer that needs to float the last $50 or so bucks the same opportunity you gave this buyer?

Honestly if I'm ever in that tight for cage space again. A large Kritter Keeper is only $7.99. So I think I'll take that option next time.

But I'm always willing to work with people - always have, always will.

**I think it's the 10,000 Pyramid ms_terese :)
