    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

i am trying to decide on a setup for my future clutches of hatchlings... i would like to give them each an individual enclosure...im sure to most of you this sounds a little un-necessary, but i do not want to have to worry about nips/bites from cagemates... i am trying to design a box approximately 4' x 4' and possibly making 16 individual boxes within... that would be a 1'x1' square for each baby... do yall think this is enough for each dragon? or does this idea seem totally wrong... i would like ANY opinions as i only want to build one enclosure....

or another idea that i have is to build a rack and have a bunch of smaller sterilite tubs .... this idea maybe less work, but will take up more room...any help is appreciated and any pics of dragon racks would be great... thanks in advance, i appreciate it...

if that is the case, then why do many breeders put many babies in sterilite tubs that are maybe 18" long? i understand that they need space, but these are hatchlings...thanks...
 
You need to provide heat and UVB so you need the room. We use large Rubbermaid and put 10 babies per container for the first 2 weeks. Then you can separate by size into 2 containers
 
With a 1'X1 space, there would be no way to have a gradient temp, and they could never escape the hot spot.
 
I would stick to a rack system with big tubs, I know someone who built a rack system out of a Sterilite 4-Shelf Shelving Unit you can get at walmart, they're easy to run lights through, easy to clean and if you put shelves it really won't take up much room, keep the babies in small groups and feed them well, and watch for any aggressive babies to prevent nips... a 1x1 space is waaaaaay too small..I agree with Nick and Matthew..
 
thanks for the replies...ill be purchasing tubs tomorrow... i just put my male and female together yesterday, but of course i want to be way ahead of the game.... thanks for the opinions...i just really dont want to have to deal with nips, that is why i was trying to come up with a way to house the babies singularly, but the more i realize that there is no feasible way....

I certainly understand that concern, and I appreciate your bringing this here. I've also been wondering if there was anything that I could do to prevent, or at least deter, nips. I'm building several melamine cages to put them in groups, and then just keep a close eye for mean or aggressive ones.

But I just put 28 eggs in the 'bator this past Sunday night so I've got a couple months 'til I get to play with the babies. I should be all set by then!!!

Keep us updated on your progress, and make sure to include lots of pics!! I listed my entire process in this thread http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/forums/showthread.php?t=234980 and included many pics. Hope you have as much fun as I have thus far. And my real fun has yet to begin!!! lol
 
hey matt, i read you post yesterday and i cant wait til i get eggs too...im trying to prepare as much as possible...im just hoping my female is gravid... she is bloated and she's been pooping everyday (which is more than normal) so something is changing and im hoping it is good...ill keep you posted and im gonna take lots of pics...i wish i would have gotten one of copulation, but i was too excited and forgot the camera...lol...take care....
