• Responding to email notices you receive.
    **************************************************
    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Moderation... Question. Sorta.

Sometimes, some issues end up being signifigantly polarizing and involved individuals start to bring it- and their differences- up in places where it's not appropriate. Unrelated threads, unrelated subforums and categories...

Should I just keep wailing on the report post button as if it were a game of Whack-A-Mole or would direct PMs indicating the entire situation to online mods (when present) be more appropriate?

's kinda... one going on now that I am pretty sure is outgrowing any kind of reasonable containment in topical areas. I'm certainly not trying to tell the mods what, when or how to do what they do; just never sure how aware another individual is of something like this unless I manage to see that they're reading the same thing I am reading.

Such incidents are completely at the discretion of any mod who happens to read such posts and/or responds to a Report a post function. Reporting a post does not guarantee that any mod will consider the issue reported as being significant enough for any action on their part. Sometimes a flame war is best to just let it burn itself out. Other times, a heaping dose of bannings might be the offered solution. There is no way to "black and white" such things.

Kind of a given- the report post function isn't a method by which a user can dictate results, simply one by which they can essentially point at something and indicate that they think something is wrong.

My question was more one regarding which method the mods would rather see utilized to indicate such situations when the involved posts become substantial in number. Hit the report post button twenty-fifty times for each inappropriate post across a half dozen threads... or just fire off a PM with a series of links and a single cohesive description of the schism.

Just speaking for myself. If you notice I'm the only mod on at the moment of a incident that you feel requires immediate attention just PM me. You only need to use the report a post button once and it will be read when the moderators check their email. I might be on reading here but I might not check my emails before I log off and will not know there is a problem until I check my inbox at a later time.

When you do use the report a post function your message will probably be read by every moderator. Keep in mind that action may take place that you may not notice or that is visible. Warning points, private messages to offending parties or simply keeping an eye on the topic could be taking place. It is possible that no action is taken or warranted. If it is a hot topic and/or multiple users are reporting posts be assured that the topic is being watched.

Just a quick note here about using the Report a Post function. Speaking only for myself, of course, but if one participant in a pissing duel constantly uses this function to report the OP for not appreciating their side of the argument, those sorts of reports are simply ignored completely. If someone CONSTANTLY uses such function and becomes a pain in the butt to us with a flood of emails (trying to use such a function as a weapon against the OP), they are likely to find themselves being put on ice for a while.
