    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

i was fishing the other day and i seen a little head pop out of the water, what did my eyes behold.....
a Southern Mudsnake.. well i didnt know it was one until i did some research on them, i did catch him (got really wet) but i could not keep hold if it....
ohh the one that got away... *SIGH*
well anyway this isnt a fish story,
I would like to know if you or anyone you know breeds those BEA-utiful creatures,I would like to purchase....

Unfortunately, Thomas, it's illegal to own or possess any native reptiles in Georgia.

Here is the Georgia DNR website that lists all prohibited species. Essentially, all native non-venomous snakes, lizards, and amphibians are protected under state law. A law was just passed protecting native turtles two months ago as well. Venomous reptiles, while not protected in the state because they are considered a nuisance animal, are considered dangerous and prohibited from personal possession or ownership without a permit.

If you notice, even corn snakes and green anoles are illegal to own as pets here. It's a bummer, but if we don't respect the current state laws regarding reptile ownership, state and federal governments will only use our transgressions against us and eventually ban other species as well.

Yes, in Georgia is it illegal to own ANY native animal, whether it's captive-bred or not, and that even includes morphs like albino and Snow Corns. No matter where it came from, a Mud Snake would be illegal to keep, period, in Georgia.
SC might be a bit backwards in some respects, but at least I can still keep any kind of snake I want to here, so I'll stick with the Sandlapper State, thank you.

If it helps any, mudsnakes are considered to be almost impossible to keep in captivity. Their main diet consists of amphiumas, a type of salamander. I got one from a friend a while back and just released it. Beautiful snakes, though.
