In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Hello.
After Much research on these Beardies, I thought it would be smoother !

I just bought a baby Bearded Dragon from the pet store 2-3 days ago. It's roughly 5-6 inches long and I was told it was about a month old. It was in a tank with it's siblings along with : mealworms, greens and small crickets.

Well we got a 22 gallon tank (to start - We are currently building an imaculate habitat for it).We have the Basking Spot and the temp stays between 90-101 Degrees. We have been turning it off at night. The Cool Spot stays between 70-80 degrees and then at night with the light off it gets between 65-75 degrees. It has a little food bowl and water dish, A basking sculpture (where is sits often) and the humidity is moderate. We have 2 digi thermometers and the one humidity thermo in there. I have paper towels on the bottom of the tank instead of the sand or other options. We have dropped baby crickets in there (calcium dusted) and little meal worms, and some green veggies:Turnip greens, Kale and minced carrots. It wont eat anything from my observation. Please Help.
When I look at it and talk to it, it comes to the glass and licks it. It will even like walk up the glass with it's front feet and look at me. It's very friendly and so far likes us. It Just Wont Eat ! And we Mist it a couple times a day.
I am worried. I know it could be stressed or missing it's siblings.

Sabrina, Just give it a couple more days, it more than likely is stressed from the move and also since its by itsself now it could be alittle worried since he is now by himself and no friend..its kinda like you going somewhere strange with no friends or friend..woudlnt you be alittle nervous? Just give it a couple days and see what happens.

Thank You for that. I am already so attached to him/her (it). Under the suggestion of my Husband, I took his tank outside for some fresh light. He started running around (more then I've seen yet) and slurped in a cricket on the way. Yet it was only one - but better then nothing ! I am so happy about that. I will take it day by day. Thank you again for replying. I can understand how stressful it may be for the little guy. I will keep you posted. Thanks ! :)

You have to be really careful about bringing glass tanks outside into the sun. The sun will heat the tank up and the temperatures will quickly soar past recommended highs. It's better to put your dragon into a plastic rubbermaid tub, or anything other than glass for that matter.

Don't worry about your baby missing it's siblings. In the wild the mother lays the eggs and then dissappears. The babies hatch and go their own separate ways. They don't stay together as a group.

And don't worry about your new one not eating much for the first couple days, it's common. Just make sure that the basking spot is somewhere between 100 and 110 degrees so they can process their food. (We like to say that basking is their way of "cooking" their food!)

Wow I didn't think about the glass heating up like that. I will do the other from now on. I have plenty of rubbermaid thingys laying about. Guess it's a good thing we only stayed out there for 5-10 minutes ! But it acted alot happier for some reason. Maybe natural light and heat ?

I just want it to be happy and healthy. I'd hate for it to not do well and croak over. Thank you for the reply also. When it starts eating regularly I will be worry free !

I wish I could tell if it's a boy or girl. I hate to keep saying it.

Thank you !

lol sabrin sexing them is a very tricky thing for some of us..plus one way peopel say you can do it is a dangerous way to me.....its called "popping" its where you bend the lower abdomen backwards to express the genitals of the males.. I personally dont do this myself because I DONT TRUST MYSELFand wouldnt want to hurt them..I suggest you not to try sexingthme until they r older..if you can when they are alittle older take them to a vet to have them sexed..sometimes though males will bob at just abotu anything so thats an easy give away you have a male...thats or if it bobs and its beard turns black soemtimes for no reason...

I don't believe any kind of "popping" is really commonly practiced with Beardies....when they are old enough, if you simply bend the tail gently forward over their back, it is quite simple to see the "bulges" of a male under the skin at the base of the tail, the hemipenes are never exposed. You can usually do this pretty accurately by the time they are a couple months old.
