    =====================

I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

Beginning of August, I introduced my Blood Boa to my '05 Kahl female to get started on my TH Bloody Sunglows. It was a tentative introduction, he's 2½ yrs now and I wanted to see if he was up to the task. And it went well for a first time too.

Removed on 8-12 for feeding, fed on the 15th, returned to her on the 18th. Still looking good, and he was even a bit more vigorous it seemed. 8-30 he gave me a turd.

9-9 removed for feeding, fed on 9-11 and reintroduced on 9-14. This introduction though, the female rampaged. She really acted like she didn't like this guy on her back all the time, and was really tearing things up. Cage cleaning the whole 2 weeks was like every other day. She tore up the paper, flipped her hide and water bowl, which wasn't easy to do, and smeared urates all over everything, including herself and the male. So I pulled him on 10-7 for feed with the intention of leaving him out for the full feed cycle, to see if she calms back down. She did at that.

HE however, refused to eat on 10-9 for the first time since I got him. Since he seemed to be having his tail wrapped over his own body, seemingly in courtship with himself, I chalked it up as him being in breeding mode, and he gets to wait till next feeding. He did attack and hiss at it though. LOL

Well, this last weekend was feed time, and also cage nuking time. When I pulled out Guku Fri 10-4 to check out his colors and tub him to do his cage, I noticed a tail that wasn't wrapping around my fingers like normal. I switch his position so I can look better, and sure enough, it's not only not wrapping on my finger like it should, it falls when I remove my finger, instead of slowly lowering like it should. Get him in better light to see if she injured him on her rampage, and I notice his tail, from the cloaca down to the tip, is in a tight s position the whole length. They straighten with little effort, but snap back to tight s' rather quickly. Watching him motor around the cage, he does fine, except i notice that his tail is lolling to the side, and often curls up.

My Herp Vet just left the house, he'll be out of town continuing education from tomorrow until the 18th. On the 19th we'll get X-Rays and see if they tell anything, and possibly a CAT scan if needed.

On a more personal note, I gotta say, THIS SUCKS! You have no idea how disturbed I am at the moment. He's the only actual INVESTMENT animal in my collection, I bought him for a specific purpose, and I paid a handsome sum for him. Now I may not get to go through with it. This has to be a sign. I've taken a lot of blows over the years, Aurora being the biggest by far, but this one is about enough to throw in the towel. This was the project that was suppose to put that passion back in my life. I am just fed up with the unnecessary adversity, the slime that runs rampant in our industry, the other slime that stands up for them and condones their bull crap, just fed up with it all.

Anyway, Happy Veterans Day!

Jesus Paisan, I am sorry for the turn of events....I hope his injury isn't permament.

I hope it's just a minor injury, Rich, and his reluctance to move is swelling and tenderness. I'd hate to see someone like you give up. :-/

Sorry to hear this, but hopefully he's fixable - and if he got broken because he was breeding a bit TOO vigorously maybe he'll cool down and do things right in the future.... even if with a bit of a limp.....

I hope everything works out for the snake as well as you Rick. I know you take great care of your animals and it shows. I also know how much you've looked forward to possible offspring from that animal.

Chris

oh well shoot, I am so sorry to hear this Rick! Like others have said, hopefully it's something that the vet can confirm will correct itself and just a result of his 'excitement' over seeing a lady for the 1st time. Hoping for a good outcome, don't lose faith

Thanks everyone. I'm hoping for the best too.

The vet did ponder on it a bit, and suggested maybe he already had a spinal issue, and I just never noticed it. I told him I had about a hundred pictures that say otherwise any time he felt like looking at them. He thought that was interesting, and elaborated a bit with an example. If you bend over and throw your back out, it wasn't from bending over, it was because you have a bad back. Could be he had something going on, and the courtship is why it presented itself. He was just speculating though. We'll hopefully know more on the 19th.

I still have my doubts on that pre-existing thing, just going by all the handling I've done, and all the admiring. But he is a fabulous vet, a Diplomat in the vet society and the Zoo Vet out here for 15 yrs, so I have to keep an open mind, because he just knows way more then me.

Thanks again everyone.

Good luck with whatever it is. I hope your vets speculation is off and it simply turns out to be his over exuberance or something along those lines. Hoping for the best for him and for you!

Took a few pictures this weekend, mostly for the vets reference, but thought I'd share here too. He came out for a stroll after I sprayed down the viv.

Here he is just wondering what it is I'm up too...

This one shows the curl I was describing earlier. It's weird because it will take about 3 laps around the viv for it to straighten out on it's own...

A picture after I was looking at his tail, and undid the curl. Notice the kinky looking s shapes are all but gone except at the lower end of the tail...

The next pic is a GIF I put together right after the pic above. As soon as he started motoring back to his hide, the kinky s shapes returned. It's just so weird because he does have control of the tail, but if you watch the next GIF, you'll notice how it first lolls to one side, then to the other...

Upon further investigation, it would appear that the kink down at the tip doesn't want to straighten out when I examine his tail. I don't want to force it though, so hard to tell if it's actually a kink, or if it's the muscles holding it that way.

Anyway, it's going to be a long week.

Just came across this, Rick...and I wish I hadn't. Any chance the female could have broken him during her rampaging?
Hope whatever it is resolves, AND that he got the job done before whatever happened happened.

Her injuring him in some way is initially what came to mind. He's quite a bit smaller then her, but not any smaller then Sammy was with Aurora.

I just can't fathom how though. The only thing in the viv that could be considered hard, or non-flexible, would be the water bowl. Perhaps she pinched his tail up against the side of the viv. ???? I just can't see anything else in there, given how flexible they are, that could actually cause harm somehow.

Man I hope everything works itself out, thats beautiful snake. I know you must ahve been looking forward to offspring. GoodLuck with everything.

From the way you describe it and the photos Im inclined to beleive it is a musculoskeletal injury from breeding. The fact that continuous motion eventually straightens the tail back out almost to its normal place of rest and then stopping results in the "s" shape returning makes me think stressed/strained ligament, tendon, and/or muscle. If it has something to do with bone you can listen for crepitation which is the sound of bone on bone that shouldn't be touching(simple or complex fracture) or (stress fracture from over exerction: very small typically and dont always show up on x-ray). It will be faint due to the size of the bones but if its there you will hear it. Im not a vet, but i do have some decent experience with mechanisms of injury and musculoskeletal injuries. (marines love to do crazy/stupid stuff and then i have to fix em) lol

When I get with the doctor on Sunday I'll make sure to bring that up. We use doplar to locate the heart whenever I have blood work done on them, so I'm sure it would pick up any crepitation better then our ears.

I'm no vet but maybe he has a pinched nerve? Just chucking it in to the general pot of ideas... he maybe holds it funny because it hurts, then relaxes as he moves?

Actually, motoring around the cage does not correct the issue. I didn't mean to give that impression. The kinky looking shape is there until I straighten it out, then it will return once he moves. When his tail does that curl over, that's when moving around seems to let it uncurl.

Pinched nerve does make sense since I have observed him once or twice wiggling his tail, and looking like he was trying to bury the tip into the substrate, sorta like a scorpion stings. But this behavior has only been witnessed a couple times, then stopped.

I'm really sorry to hear about this. I hope it turns out to be a simple remedy; at the very least, I hope it's reversible! Would hate to see this--anything for that matter--cause another good guy to go away. Seems everyday that the percentage of good guys vs bad guys is growing in the wrong direction. Best of luck with him!!

Doctor returns Sat, scheduled to meet him at the emergency center on Sunday. Until then, I am to observe. And I observe no change.
